Recently crowned WBC super lightweight king Dalton Smith (19-0) attempts his first title defense on Saturday night against former champion Alberto Puello (25-1).
Smith returns to his hometown after taking a one-fight detour to take the belt from Subriel Matias in January. The fan-favorite brawler is coming off the best performance of his career, a title-claiming fifth-round TKO.
The 29-year-old now looks to parlay that success into a big win over one of the most accomplished fighters in divisional history to cement his title reign.

The defending champion Smith is a slight -200 favorite over Puello, who comes back at +150. Smith has a 67 percent implied win probability in his first title defense against a credentialed opponent.
Heavyweight prospect Leo Atang is the biggest favorite on the card. Atang is a whopping -10000 over Jonathan Vergara, who is the biggest underdog at +2000. Giorgio Visioli is also a big favorite in the co-main event, listed at -1000 over journeyman Maxi Hughes.
Dalton Smith vs. Alberto Puello Prediction
Dalton Smith raised some red flags in his last performance, even if it ended with a quick, five-round knockout. Fortunately for him, Puello is not built to be the type of fighter to expose his holes.
Smith is a strong counter-puncher who likes luring his opponent into his power shots. Still, old habits die hard, and Smith could not help himself from getting into a backyard brawl in his last fight.
Smith’s poor hand placement and nonexistent head movement will catch up with him eventually, but not against Puello, who has just one knockout victory since 2020. That TKO win came against a 10-5 opponent who did not belong in the ring with him. Before that moment, four of Puello’s previous five fights ended in either split or majority decisions, showing his tendency to fight on thin margins.
Smith is not the type of fighter anyone wants to try to scrape past. The timing and accuracy of his power shots make it difficult to steal rounds against him. The champion’s pressure and power should give him the edge over a scrappy Puello over 12 rounds.
- Boxing Picks: Dalton Smith by Decision (+110 on bet365)
Giorgio Visioli vs. Maxi Hughes Best Bet
Giorgio Visioli is arguably coming off the best performance of his young career, while Hughes never looked worse than in his most recent loss to Pierce O’Leary. Their contrasting momentum is one of several factors tilting the odds in Visioli’s favor.
Few fighters ever look as comfortable in the ring as Visioli, who always operates at his pace. The 23-year-old southpaw is an exquisite counter-puncher who makes up for low volume with radiant footwork and movement. Visioli’s eyes are the best part of his game and what makes him so difficult to corral.
Hughes has the footwork to potentially give Visioli trouble, but only for a moment. Visioli excels at mirroring movement to cut off the ring and line up his quick power combinations. Hughes, who has just six knockouts in his 40-fight career, really struggles gaining the respect of stalking power-punchers.
The southpaw-vs-southpaw matchup might still be tricky for the young prospect, who has yet to face the stance matchup in his career. Hughes has only been stopped twice in his last 16 outings, both by retirement.
- Boxing Picks: Giorgio Visioli by Decision (-125 on bet365)
Leo Atang vs. Jonathan Vergara Prediction
There is not much to break down in this fight. Atang is clearly being set up to get a highlight in a featured spot, and Jonathan Vergara was the selected victim.
Atang is not a perfect prospect, but his athleticism and speed are enough to beat his current competition. That will once again ring true against Vergara, who has no substance to his game beyond telegraphed blitzes and wild swinging.
Atang will eventually face better competition to accurately gauge his true ceiling. Saturday night will not be that night.
- Boxing Picks: Leo Atang Moneyline (-20000)
Shannon Ryan vs. Emma Dolan 2 Best Bet
Shannon Ryan and Emma Dolan first met two years ago, when the latter pulled off a sizeable upset by split decision. The victory helped Dolan earn an IBF title shot, but after a loss, she is back to permanently settle the score.
Dolan’s team points to Ryan’s second-round knockdown in that fight as the single most important factor in swinging the scorecards. Had that not happened, Dolan likely would have won the fight, and she insists it was a one-time blunder. However, the 28-year-old had bigger issues in the fight.
Dolan’s size was the biggest difference for the much shorter Ryan in the initial meeting. Ryan has quicker hands and slightly more power, but she had no way to effectively get past Dolan’s reach.
Ryan has displayed improved movement since the loss, but nothing to indicate she is better at efficiently closing the distance. Every time she attempted to break into range, Dolan popped her with a jab to get ahead on the cards between their car crashes. Dolan could use that weapon more often, considering it was at her disposal the entire fight.
A lot can change in two years, and perhaps Ryan has evolved into a completely different fighter behind closed doors. That has just not shown up on tape yet, giving little indication that this rematch will be much different.
- Boxing Picks: Emma Dolan by Decision (-110 on bet365)
