Michael Conlan’s Quest for WBA Gold
Michael Conlan is a former Olympian (2016 bronze medalist) and has transitioned to the professional ranks with great success. He has a spotless record so far and has had solid triumphs at both 126 and 122 pounds.
Conlan has collected a variety of international and intercontinental championships over the years. It’s only a matter of time before he gets to that proverbial next tier if the results keep coming like this.
His last time fighting in Belfast also produced this caliber of performance from Conlan, as outlined in the Ruiz fight video below.

Conlan is respectful of his upcoming opponent and realizes how stiff of a test this is for him. Michael Conlan even stated that he felt the betting line for this fight was too lopsided and that he should be the true underdog against Doheny.
That being said, he is confident in his preparations and looking to perform in this one. So as to jettison himself towards a world title bid in 2022.
TJ Doheny’s Path Back to Gold
TJ Doheny is a former world champion having, held that IBF gold circa 2018. He also successfully defended that super bantamweight crown in early 2019 before relinquishing his hold on the gold.
While I had mentioned that this is Doheny’s first pro fight in Ireland, the Australia-based lad is also an Irishman himself. This is a stylistically intriguing, attention-grabbing domestic affair to be sure.
While Doheny has lost a pair of bouts in his last four those are his only two career defeats, and they both went the distance.
When both step into the ring, it will be exactly seventeen months to the day since Doheny last competed.
Perhaps Doheny’s dormancy through the global pandemic, as compared to Conlan’s pair of pandemic era bouts could play a role in how the story of this fight unfurls.
Conlan vs Doheny Tale of the Tape
15-0 | Record | 22-2 |
8 | Knockouts | 16 |
5’8 | Height | 5’5.5 |
69″ | Reach | 68″ |
Orthodox | Stance | Southpaw |
This prizefight is slated to be a ten-round affair. Ultimately, I think that this bout encroaches into that moment where that final bell rings.
The confluence of Doheny never being halted inside the distance and Conlan’s KO rate, which is a touch above fifty percent leads me to make this inference.
I see value in pursuing prop bets on this fight going the distance and also on Conlan winning via points/ decision.
Pick: Michael Conlan (-700)
