  • Farmer vs Frenois goes Saturday, July 27th at 9:00 pm EST
  • Can Farmer score a win that jettisons him towards the big money fights in his weight class?
  • Will Frenois shock the boxing world and assert himself as a world-class super featherweight?

Farmer vs Frenois emanates from College Park Center live in Arlington, Texas. It’s a feature bout on the Ramirez vs Hooker card with both of those fighters vying for multiple super-lightweight titles. The IBF World super featherweight title is on the line during Farmer vs Frenois which is the co-main event attraction.

Farmer is in yet another title bout for 2019 and is defending against the IBF mandatory contender, Frenois. It’s an intriguing card put on by Matchroom Boxing that should deliver a few highlights live on DAZN this weekend.

Farmer vs Frenois Odds

Fighter Odds
Tevin Farmer -1832
 Guillaume Frenois +1007

*Odds taken 07/24/19

Farmer is quite active and that seems to be lending itself to gaining more traction. Tevin Farmer has defended his gold three times in the span of five months as he heads into his fourth defense overall. For Frenois, he has won multiple regional titles but this is his first bid at a world championship. Frenois also has a 16-fight win streak which is running over half a decade. All that being said, I see Farmer putting on a clinic here.

Farmer Defends Successfully Once More

Farmer’s rise in the sport has been a curious one. Farmer has admitted that he hasn’t always been serious about the sweet science and also began his career losing his debut bout. Tevin Farmer has since turned things around to where he’s now a champion fighter poised to fight the elite combatants in his division.

A compelling element of this bout is the looming Gervonta Davis. Davis is actually defending his belt on the same day Farmer is defending his. This is a fight where not only are the fans are clamoring for it but both Farmer and Davis have it on their respective radars as well.

Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has indicated interest in Farmer vs Davis as well. Hearn is looking to build up Farmer while also advancing in a calculated fashion towards Davis vs Farmer. The immediate next step towards that is Tevin Farmer getting past Frenois.

Frenois does have a marked experience advantage. Frenois has a lot more fights but many pundits think he has a bit of a padded record. This is reflected in Farmer being ranked #5 on Box Rec while Frenois is #55 on that same rankings list. In terms of skill though, I think Farmer has way more tools in his proverbial toolbox.

There’s a big disparity in the strength of schedule for each pugilist. I mentioned Frenois’ experience advantage but a lot of those bouts were against less than world-class competition in his native France. Combat sports math isn’t foolproof but Frenois went to a draw against Jono Carroll while Tevin Farmer scored a pretty thorough 12-round decision win over Carroll.
