These 135 pounders are well matched here and this is absolutely not some softball comeback bout for the former champion Lomachenko.

Nakatani is a top ten ranked fighter in the division and can present some very real challenges this weekend. For new boxing bettors looking for tips, make sure to check out SBD’s how to bet on boxing guide.

Vasiliy Lomachenko’s Big Return

This is a telling fight for Lomachenko, who enters the ring on the heels of his loss to Teofimo Lopez.

A defeat that was shocking for many as the top-ranked pound-for-pound Ukrainian warrior relinquished three world championships when many saw him as untouchable.

Someone who would finesse the very best in the world and make elite combatants look like pedestrian pugilists comparatively.

The former three-division champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist got shoulder surgery since that October 2020 defeat and is now ready to return.

Much has been made of the shoulder issues affecting him in the Lopez fight, and the spotlight will very much be on Loma’s form here as he again steps through the ring ropes.

It’s oddly apropos that Lomachenko will likely enter this one with a bit of a chip on his shoulder as questions around his shoulder health linger.

Will this begin the comeback trail back towards world championship glory, or will this fight illustrate that the infallible pugilist may in fact have lost a step?

Masayoshi Nakatani’s Resume

Masayoshi Nakatani is a former lightweight champion who carved out his name on the Japanese circuit before crossing over to the US for his last pair of bouts.

Nakatani has also fought Teofimo Lopez, and while that marked the lone loss of Nakatani’s career, he still gave Lopez a stiff test throughout.

Masayoshi Nakatani rebounded from that Lopez loss by dispatching Felix Verdejo via ninth-round TKO in their December contest.

Nakatani has noticeable physique-based advantages like having a near five-inch height advantage and a reach edge that is just shy of six inches.

Loma’s advantages are likely to come in the speed department, and the crafty southpaw should be able to weaponize his unique angles, footwork, and superb ring IQ from being arguably the most accomplished amateur boxer ever.

This prizefight is scheduled for twelve rounds, and I think that the ringside judges will play a role in the outcome of this one.

I think there’s some solid value in seeking out prop bets on this fight going the distance and Lomachenko winning via points or decision.

Pick: Vasiliy Lomachenko (-2000)
