The College World Series rolls on Monday with two more teams facing elimination. Alabama takes on Texas in a win-or-go home showdown, looking to avoid joining Ole Miss on the sidelines. Both teams are coming off embarrassing losses in their tournament openers, but prediction markets and online sportsbooks are expecting the Longhorns to be the ones who bounce back. I disagree, which opens up value betting on the Crimson Tide.

First pitch for this elimination game is scheduled for 2:00 pm ET from Charles Schwab Field, in Omaha, Nebraska, with ESPN providing the broadcast coverage.

Below, you’ll find my Alabama vs Texas expert picks and predictions, along with the latest odds for this College World Series contest.

The Longhorns began the tournament with the third shortest College World Series odds. Judging from their opening game performance, you’d never know it. Texas’ bats were completely silenced by Georgia starter Joey Volchko, who tossed a complete game gem, en route to a 7-1 victory. Volchko scattered only four hits to the mighty Texas lineup, while striking out 15 batters.

The outcome was a major surprise for a few reasons. For one, Volchko coughed up 7 runs in his previous outing, and the Longhorns offense is regarded as one of the best in the nation. Texas features balance up and down their lineup, with a strong blend of power and contact hitters. Carson Tinney and Aiden Robbins are their most powerful threats, after combining for 46 home runs so far, but there are several others capable of breaking a game open with one swing of the bat.

The result was especially concerning given who they have to face on Monday. Texas will go up against Alabama sophomore Zane Adams, who also dominated them earlier this season. Adams tossed 6 scoreless innings versus Texas back in April, scattering five hits while striking out seven. He’s been sensational thus far in the NCAA Tournament, posting a 2-0 record, while yielding only four runs over 12 innings and striking out 13.

Opposing him for the Longhorns will be their number two starter Ruger Riojas. The righty boasts a slightly worse ERA than Adams, but his recent form is nowhere near as strong. Riojas is fresh off surrendering four runs and two dingers in the Super Regional versus Oregon, which marked the fifth time in his last eight starts he’s allowed at least that many men to cross the plate.

The Crimson Tide don’t boast the same type of offensive ceiling as Texas, as they simply can’t match the Longhorns power. They do however, manufacture runs at a solid clip, relying on small ball to get the job done. Alabama is one of the most patient teams in the nation, and boast a 91% stolen base success rate. Justin Lebron and Brady Neal are the two most dangerous hitters at the plate, each boasting an OPS north of .920. The rest of the lineup is a scrappy bunch, willing to work the count and make opposing pitcher’s grind through every at-bat.

The Crimson Tide breezed through the Regional and Super Regional rounds, outscoring their opposition 52-17. They were silenced 7-0 by Oklahoma in their tournament opener, but that was a team they’d beaten two of three times in the regular season. Game #1 was an outlier for them, and I’m willing to bet they move on given the favorable price I’m getting. They have the advantage on the mound, and while they can’t match the Longhorns power, they should be able to produce enough runs to see them through to another elimination game.
