Georgia opened the CWS as a co-favorite in College World Series odds with North Carolina. North Carolina booked its ticket to the semifinal yesterday, so the Tar Heels have surged ahead in odds. However, Georgia would even out the odds with a win over Oklahoma toight.

Georgia has an unstoppable offense led by Daniel Jackson. Jackson leads the Bulldogs in all three Triple Crown stats, clobbering 31 home runs with a .388 batting average and 86 RBI – more than one per game. He has a ridiculous .484 on-base percentage and an .820 slugging percentage that would not look out of place on Barry Bonds’ Baseball Reference page.

Oklahoma has a strong offense in its own right, but Georgia is operating on a much higher plane. During the season, Georgia amassed nearly 200 more hits than the Sooners and posted a slugging percentage 125 points higher.

As mentioned, both teams have strong offenses. Even as the “weaker” offense, Oklahoma poured in 7.2 runs per game with a sturdy .287/.391/.483 line as a team. Georgia, meanwhile, has averaged a ludicrous 10.3 runs per game with a team slugging percentage over .600. It might not be the 23-9 game between the Rockies and A’s, but lots of runs should be scored on Monday night.

The name of the game with the Bulldogs is runs. Georgia has averaged an absurd 10 runs per game across their 64 games, slugging 181 home runs (good for almost three per game). On the other side, Oklahoma has pitched in 218 fewer runs and less than half as many home runs.

Pitching-wise, the teams are quite similar. Georgia has a few more walks and strikeouts (in three extra games), but the ERAs and WHIPs are comparable.

Oklahoma Sooners

Oklahoma shocked Georgia Tech in the Atlanta Regional, rebounding after taking a loss to the Yellow Jackets in their first matchup. In Atlanta, Oklahoma beat The Citadel twice and beat Georgia Tech twice.

In the Lawrence Super Regional, Oklahoma hammered Kansas, winning games 8-1 and 13-2 to advance to Omaha. Oklahoma shut out Alabama in its opening-round win, beating the Tide 9-0 to advance to this game.
