The #5 North Carolina Tar Heels (53-12-1) and unranked Oklahoma Sooners (40-22) are on track to meet in the 2026 College World Series final on Wednesday.
UNC went a perfect 3-0 in the double-elimination round, while Oklahoma is three outs away from doing the same (leading Georgia 11-3 on Wednesday night). Despite OU’s impressive romp through Omaha, the opening College World Series odds heavily favor the Tar Heels winning the best-of-three final.

Can Oklahoma Continue Cinderella Run?
Oklahoma’s late-season surge has been as brilliant as it was unexpected. After going an ugly 14-16 in SEC play and bowing out in the first round of the SEC Tournament, OU went 4-1 in the Atlanta Regional before demolishing favored #15 Kansas State in the Lawrence Super Regional (8-1, 13-2)
The Sooners were picked to finish 14th in the 16-team SEC in the preseason coaches poll.
In Omaha, all OU did was blowout #7 Alabama (9-0) and then take down #3 Georgia twice (4-3 on Tuesday, and leading 11-3 in the ninth inning on Wednesday).
Oklahoma has two prior national championships: 1951 and 1994. The Sooners lost to Ole Miss in the best-of-three final in 2022.
UNC Tears Through Bracket
Unlike the Sooners, the Tar Heels have been among the nation’s elite since the start of the season. Earlier, actually. UNC’s national ranking ranged from 7th to 12th in the five main preseason polls.
The Tar Heels never dropped out of the top 20 in any poll at any point of the season.
They have been on a tear since Week 6, jumping from 12th in the Coaches Poll all the way to 4th by the final Week 16 poll.
The Tar Heels have won eight of their last nine games and outscored their Omaha opponents 23-11, winning each game by at least three runs (6-2, 5-2, 12-7).
North Carolina is still in search of its first national championship.
College World Series Schedule: UNC vs OU
With both teams going 3-0 in the double-elimination round, there will be a two-day hiatus before the finals. The best-of-three final series will start on Saturday, June 20, at 7:00 pm local time. Game 2 will take place the next day (Sunday, June 21) at 1:30 pm CT.
If the teams split the first two games, the decisive Game 3 will take place at 6:00 pm CT on Monday, June 22.
