Indiana is a 4.5-point home favorite over Rutgers in the second meeting between the two this season. The Scarlet Knights have dominated the series recently, going 6-0 SU and ATS since the Hoosiers’ victory in the final game of the 2019 regular season. Indiana won the first five series meetings after Rutgers joined the Big Ten in 2014-15, but the Scarlet Knights are 8-1 SU and ATS since.

Rutgers is 16-7 ATS this season, 3-3 on the road. Indiana is 11-11-1 ATS this season, and is 2-1 SU and 9-4 ATS at Assembly Hall. The Hoosiers are 5-1 SU and ATS in Big Ten home games. Indiana 14-8-1 against the “over” and Rutgers is 10-13 in that spot.
Indiana Back on Track
After an early winter stretch in which Indiana lost five of seven games and starting point guard Xavier Johnson, the Hoosiers appear to be back to the team that was the media’s preseason choice to win the Big Ten. (Purdue was picked fifth). Indiana has has won six of its last seven and enters after its most impressive victory, a 79-74 home take-down over Purdue on Saturday. The Hoosiers opened a 16-point lead in the first half and held off the No. 1 Boilermakers behind strong performances from hyphenated go-tos Trayce Jackson-Davis and Jalen Hood-Schifino.
Players make plays. According to Synergy, Indiana's Jalen Hood-Schifino entered Saturday's game 20-49 (40.8%) on FG attempts 17-22' for the year. He ended a perfect 5-5 from there in a 5-point win. Hit some tough shots to make it happen. pic.twitter.com/rl3v9fMFXs

Senior 6’9″ Jackson-Davis (19.8 points, 11.0 rebounds) had 25 points against Purdue and freshman 6’6″ Hood-Schifino (12.5 points, 4.3 assists) had 15 points, including a pair of baskets in the final 25 seconds. Jackson-Davis has 11 double-doubles this season and is third in Division I with 3.15 blocked shots per game. He enters the Rutgers game 16 points short of becoming the first player in school history with 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.
Indiana is shooting 49.9 percent from the field, fifth in Division I, and is 24th with a 55.3 effective field goal percentage. The Hoosiers also win in other ways. They have a plus-4.3 rebound margin and are limiting opponents to 41.0 percent shooting from the floor.
Rutgers Defends the Rock
Rutgers coach Steve Pikiell builds with defense, and the seventh and latest version of his Scarlet Knights excels there. Rutgers is fourth in Division I in field goal percentage defense (37.5 percent) and second in KenPom defensive efficiency rating. They limited Michigan State to 34.5 percent shooting in a 61-55 victory at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, three days after holding Minnesota to 36.1 shooting in 90-55 victory. Rutgers plays an aggressive, switching man-to-man while throwing in an occasional 3-2 zone.
Caleb McConnell is 1 of 4 Big Ten players in the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year watchlist released today.
The B1G DPOY race will be fascinating this season. As I wrote this morning (https://t.co/ORIaOhbjKp), Rutgers has arguably half of the top 10 defenders in the league. pic.twitter.com/NSXDBoI0o6

The Scarlet Knights’ offense runs behind point guard 6’6″ Paul Mulcahy, who scored all of his 17 points in the second half against Michigan State and had two crucial baskets down the stretch on drives to the hoop. A true pass-first point, Mulcahy averages 9.3 points and 4.9 assists per game. The Knights are 13-4 when he starts. Post 6’11″Clifford Omoruyi (13.4 points, 10.0 rebounds) had his ninth double-double against the Spartans with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Starting forward 6’7″ Mawot Mag will not play after suffering a right knee injury midway through the first half against Michigan State.
Rutgers vs Indiana Prediction
Jackson-Davis said recently that the Buckeyes have played with a chip on their shoulder since being “punked” by Rutgers in the first meeting, making this a pay-back game. But … There are horses for courses, and Indiana has not shot better than 41.1 percent from the floor during Rutgers’ current six-game win-and-cover streak in the series. Rutgers knows how to play the Hoosiers, and until that changes …
