  • Deion Sanders is dealing with an unspecified health issue that has him away from Boulder and at his Texas home
  • Colorado’s win total sits at 6.5 games with the under favored at -150 as the Buffs face major roster turnover
  • Read below for the latest Colorado football odds and whether Coach Prime’s health concerns should impact your futures bets

Coach Prime isn’t in Boulder right now, and that’s raising questions about Colorado’s 2025 season.

Deion Sanders is dealing with health issues at his Texas home while the Buffaloes prepare for life without Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. It’s a double whammy that has oddsmakers skeptical about Colorado’s chances, setting their win total at just 6.5 games with heavy juice on the under.

Here’s everything you need to know about Colorado’s futures and whether the Buffs are worth backing in 2025.

Deion Sanders’ Health Updates

Sanders is currently away from the team dealing with what’s being called an “unspecified health issue.” His son Deion Jr. says he’s “feeling well,” but there’s no timeline for his return to campus.

The 57-year-old coach recently revealed he’s lost 14 pounds, telling a podcast host “What I’m dealing with right now is at a whole nother level.” Colorado’s athletic trainer Lauren Askevold is with Sanders in Texas, and he’s maintaining daily communication with his coaching staff.

This isn’t Sanders’ first health scare. He had two toes amputated in 2021 due to blood clot issues and missed Pac-12 media day in 2023 for similar complications. While football operations continue normally in Boulder, his absence during summer camps is notable since he participated in both previous years.

Colorado’s 2025 Win Total Reflects Transition Concerns

DraftKings has set Colorado’s win total at 6.5 games, and they’re not optimistic about the over. The -150 juice on the under tells you where the smart money’s headed.

The skepticism makes sense. You don’t just replace a Heisman Trophy winner and the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year overnight. Colorado added 27 transfers to fill the gaps, but their portal class dropped to 19th nationally, a significant decline from Sanders’ previous portal success.

Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter looks like the starting QB after going 20-4 as a starter. But Big 12 defenses present a different challenge than what he faced at Liberty.

Big 12 Championship Odds Show Long Road Ahead

At +2000 to win the Big 12, Colorado sits 10th out of 16 teams. They’re behind programs like TCU (+1100) and Iowa State (+1300), reflecting the market’s view of their rebuilding year.

Making matters worse, ESPN’s Football Power Index says Colorado faces the Big 12’s toughest schedule. They’ll battle six of the conference’s top 10 teams, including Kansas State, Arizona State, and BYU. That’s a brutal slate for a team breaking in a new quarterback and replacing their best players.

Best Colorado Futures Bet: Manage Expectations

Joel Klatt thinks Colorado could win anywhere from 4 to 9 games because the Big 12’s so bunched together. The conference depth means surprises happen, but the Buffs face an uphill battle.

The combo of a new quarterback, brutal schedule, and Sanders’ health situation creates some uncertainty. While Colorado brought in talent through the portal, including four-star QB recruit Julian Lewis from USC, chemistry takes time to develop.

This feels like a reset year for the Buffaloes. Six wins and bowl eligibility would still be considered a solid season given the circumstances. The program’s long-term trajectory under Sanders remains positive, but 2025 looks like a bridge year.

Colorado opens against Georgia Tech on August 29th. That early test will reveal plenty about whether this retooled roster can handle the pressure without their superstars.
