Harvard meets Brown on Friday, September 25, in a nationally televised Ivy League opener. Both teams enter 1-0, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
The Crimson beat New Hampshire 31-7 last Saturday, while the Bears held on for a 17-10 win at New Haven. This game will be played at Centreville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket, rather than Brown’s usual home field in Providence.
Harvard’s pass rush is the matchup I’m watching against a Brown offense that threw for 343 yards in its opener. Below is my Harvard vs Brown prediction, followed by the betting line and a closer look at how the teams started their seasons.
Harvard vs Brown Prediction
- Spread pick: Harvard to win by over 10.5 points, Yes (58% displayed at Polymarket)
I’m backing Harvard to win by at least 11 points. The Crimson’s defense did the most convincing work in either team’s opener, holding New Hampshire to 235 total yards. Seven sacks and two interceptions helped keep the Wildcats from turning passing opportunities into points.
That pressure matters against Brown. Quarterback James Murphy completed 26 of 38 passes for 343 yards at New Haven, so the Bears can move the ball through the air. But they finished with only 17 points and were shut out after halftime. Harvard has a chance to make those empty possessions costly.
My concern with laying this margin is Harvard’s own passing game. The Crimson totaled just 74 passing yards against New Hampshire, and a similar performance could leave Brown within reach. I’m counting on Harvard’s running game and defensive pressure to make the difference, rather than expecting an offensive shootout.

Harvard’s outright win price is substantially higher than the price of the spread pick. That does not automatically make the spread better value: it asks the Crimson to clear a much tougher condition. A ten-point win would settle the outright market in Harvard’s favor but lose the spread selection.
The opposing spread quotes add to more than 100%, so compare the actual buy price before entering an order. Different prediction market apps may offer different thresholds as well. I’m passing on the total at these prices and keeping this to one spread pick.
Harvard vs Brown Prediction
Brown gained 422 yards against New Haven, including 306 before halftime, but could not add to its 17-0 lead after the break. Matt Childs scored both touchdowns and finished with 148 all-purpose yards. Getting him involved offers a way to ease the pressure on Murphy.
Harvard’s offense was much more dependent on the ground game: 188 of its 262 yards came rushing. That is enough to support the style I expect Friday, but one game is too small a sample to declare either offense predictable. Brown can keep this competitive if it protects Murphy and converts drives into points.
For my Friday FCS pick, Harvard’s defensive performance is the deciding factor. I like its chances of disrupting Brown often enough to create separation. Anyone comparing these contracts with traditional college football odds should match the exact 10.5-point threshold.
