It’s Throwback Night in Miami as Florida International (2-6, 5-3 ATS) hosts New Mexico State (2-5, 2-5 ATS) at Pitbull Stadium.
The Panthers will wear special helmets adorned with their old Sunblazer nickname. The school was the Sunblazers until 1987 until switching nicknames.
Both teams are in the bottom half of Conference USA and looking for a win to maintain a shot at a bowl game. FIU has lost their last three and had five straight losing seasons. New Mexico State has lost five of its last six.

There are some teams the sportsbooks just never get a read on and this year one is FIU. Despite being 2-6 straight up, the Panthers are 5-3 against the spread and won their last three games against the spread as underdogs.
New Mexico State has been the underdog in each of its last six games, and is just 1-4 against the spread in their last five contests. The Panthers are 4-4 over/under, while New Mexico State is 4-2-1.
Playing at home, the Panthers are 9.5-point favorites at both BetMGM and Caesars, but the spread is lower at some books. The total is 43.5, with a variance of 44 at Caesars. The best moneyline beats are for New Mexico State at +290 at FanDuel and FIU is -325 at DraftKings.

The Tackle Master
Florida International junior linebacker Travion Barnes is second in the nation with 12.4 tackles per game this season and has 10 tackles for loss.
Barnes leads Conference USA in tackles, and the top three tacklers in the conference are all Panthers. The strength of this team is its defense.
FIU’s offense has sputtered. They were held to under 200 yards in a 10-7 snoozer of a loss to Sam Houston last time out. Starting QB Keyone Jenkins has been dealing with a shoulder injury and was yanked late in the loss to Sam Houston, but coach Mike MacIntyre said Jenkins was good to go for Tuesday.

QB By Committee
There are only two teams in the nation with four different quarterbacks who have thrown at least five passes.
Incredibly, the two teams are the Aggies and Panthers.
Parker Awad, Santino Marucci, Brandon Nunez and Deuce Hogan have all thrown at least five passes for the Aggies. Nunez played well in the Aggies 33-30 double OT win over LA Tech last week and Kale Edwards had four sacks in the Aggies win.
But what’s the old line? If you have two quarterbacks, then you don’t have one? New Mexico State has been in three straight bowl games, but the offense has struggled ranking seventh in CUSA. The biggest bright spot has been kicker Abraham Montano who is 10-11 on field goals.
New Mexico State vs. Florida International Prediction
- New Mexico State +9.5 at DraftKings
- Under 43.5 at DraftKings

These midweek college football games are hard to get a read on, but let’s look at which team has the most momentum at the moment. That would be New Mexico State, who scored a good win over LA Tech. This is also the Aggies only game in a 24-day stretch. Yes, that’s the longest period for any team in the nation.
But we wouldn’t be against a moneyline bet on FIU. The Panthers should have a good crowd behind them, but we don’t see them as scoring a lot of points and covering the 9.5-point spread. The FIU offense is not great. Jenkins has seven interceptions, and last year’s leading rusher Shomari Lawrence has struggle to return to form.
We like FIU straight up, but not to cover. Those Sunblazer vintage uniforms rock.
