The 2016 MTV Video Music Award nominations were announced last week and, as expected, one name towers above the rest — Beyoncé.

This shouldn’t be surprising. Her latest album, Lemonade, has caused a stir like nothing else this year. From think-pieces to hashtags, Lemonade has dominated the conversation in a way only Beyoncé is able to. And to top it off, an hour-long film was released to accompany the album, adding a layer of visual storytelling we have never seen from an album. It’s no wonder Beyoncé is up for a record 11 nominations.

This is all very unlucky for Adele, Justin Bieber, Drake, and Kanye, who in any other year would be in very strong standing for Video of the Year. Adele’s anticipated return has been an overwhelming success by all accounts and Bieber’s new album showcases a much more mature and experimental sound. Drake and Kanye continue to push the envelope for rap and hip hop. But, unfortunately for them, 2016 is set to be Beyonce’s year.

But as we all know, the favorite doesn’t always win. We’ll have to wait until August 28 to know for sure. Here are our odds for the 2016 VMAs.
