- Sportsbooks are listing Detroit Lions wide receiver Danny Amendola as the +500 favorite to win the Ballina Cup, Post Malone’s celebrity virtual beer pong tournament
- What makes Amendola the best bet? Shouldn’t you give the likes of Johnny Manziel (+1200) and Rob Gronkowski (+1000) some serious consideration?
- All of the predictions, analysis and best bets on this unusual event are listed below
NFL fans are aware of Danny Amendola’s reputation as a clutch receiver. Based on sportsbooks’ Ballina Cup odds, evidently, he’s also quite adept at throwing a ball.
A ping pong ball, that is.
What everyone is also learning from the Ballina (pronounced BALL-IN-A) Cup is that celebrities are just as bored and in need of interpersonal interaction as regular folk during this social distancing due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.
Rapper Post Malone came up with the idea for the Ballina Cup, a virtual beer pong tournament that gets underway Tuesday. He recruited the celebrities and books set the odds.

Ballina Cup Basics
Post Malone has recruited a list of celebrities that includes current and former NFLers like Amendola, Gronkowski and Travis Kelce, and former Heisman Trophy Manziel. MLB pitchers Mike Clevinger, Trevor Bauer and Marcus Stroman, country singer Morgan Wallen and supermodel Camille Kostek are also in the field.
No need to worry about their safety, though. They’ll be playing via an app they download on their phone, so social distancing remains in effect.

Beer pong isn’t just a party game. This year’s World Series of Beer Pong is slated for June 24-28 in Las Vegas. There’s over $50,000 in prize money up for grabs.
The plotline of the 2009 film Road Trip: Beer Pong was about players traveling to the national beer pong championship. Sad that they couldn’t recruit one the cast members to participate in this event.
Was DJ Qualls really that busy?
Is Amendola the Man to Beat?
Beer pong is not one of the tests included for players at the NFL Combine. It must’ve required some deep state scouting reports for the oddsmakers to get the skinny on this field of contenders.
There is evidence that Amendola is an above-average ping pong player.

He even whipped six-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady so badly at table tennis when the two were New England Patriots teammates that Brady allegedly shattered his paddle.
Does ping pong success translate to beer pong success? Hard to say. Lionel Messi is a world-class soccer player but that doesn’t mean that he’d be all-world at foosball.
Other Ballina Cup Contenders to Consider
Normally, you’d think Gronk would be offered much better odds in anything that involves party games. Perhaps the presence of his girlfriend Kostek is convincing the oddsmakers that the former Patriots tight end will be on his best behavior.
Allegedly, it was Seguin’s hard-partying lifestyle that led the Boston Bruins to trade him right after he’d helped Boston win the 2010-11 Stanley Cup. For that reason alone, the Dallas Stars forward must be in the reckoning to be Ballina Cup champion.
Might Kansas City Chiefs tight end Kelce add a Ballina Cup to his recently-earned Super Bowl ring? As he frequently displays, Kelce is someone who knows how to have fun.
Bauer would be a good bet if the object of beer pong was the fling the ball out of the stadium.
When it comes to being the life of the party, the guy who clearly should be the chalk in this scenario, though is Manziel. He certainly appears to possess the right attitude.

Come the end of this competition. Johnny Football might have a new nickname.
Johnny Beer Pong.
Pick: Johnny Manziel (+1200)
