- Oddsmakers are anticipating that the 2022 Academy Awards are going to the dog
- The Power of the Dog is nominated in 12 categories, is favored to win the Best Director Oscar and is the second betting choice for Best Picture
- On Sunday, March 27, the 94th Academy Awards will see the Oscars doled out to the best in the film industry
Oscar sounds like a solid name for a dog and this year, the Academy Awards appear set to throw several bones . . . er, Oscars, to the film The Power of the Dog.
Power of the Dog director Jane Campion is the overwhelming -2400 chalk to take home the Best Director Oscar. The Western psychological thriller, based upon the 1967 Thomas Savage novel of the same name, is the -105 second betting choice to win the Best Picture Oscar in the Academy Awards odds.
Regina Hall, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes will co-host the 94th Academy Awards. The show is being carried live by ABC on Sunday, March 27 at 8pm ET.
Best Picture Odds & Pick at 94th Academy Awards
There appears to be a hard divide when it comes to the Academy Award voters and The Power of the Dog. On the one hand, the film is dominating the pre-Oscar awards circuit.
The Power of the Dog has already won recognition as the best picture during the BAFTA and DGA ceremonies. Critics are absolutely in love with the film.
2022 Best Picture Oscar Odds
|Power of the Dog||-105|
|West Side Story||+3500|

On the other hand, Hollywood insiders insist that there are just as many Academy voters who despise the flick as there are those who will be voting it at the top of their ballot. There’s a sense that the Hollywood elite don’t want to see a streaming service (Netflix) get the Best Picture Oscar over the major studios.

Oddsmakers seem to be recognizing this insider scuttlebutt as well. CODA (Child of Deaf Adults), has overtaken Power of the Dog and is the -135 chalk in this category. It’s got Marlee Matlin and an important message. The folks in Hollywood love this kind of flick.
Pick: CODA (-135).
Best Actor Odds & Prediction
There’s some heavyweights contending in this category, including Benedict Cumberbatch (Power of the Dog) and past winner Denzel Washington (The Tragedy of Macbeth). But the winner is going to be . . . The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air?

Sure, when Will Smith was Getting Jiggy With It, you weren’t seeing Oscar potential. But hey, did you think there was an Academy Award in Olivia Colman’s future when you were watching her in Hot Fuzz?
2022 Best Actor Oscar Odds
|Will Smith (King Richard)||-600|
|Benedict Cumberbatch (Power of the Dog)||+650|
|Andrew Garfield (Tick, Tick . . . Boom!)||+1100|
|Denzel Washington (The Tragedy of Macbeth)||+3100|
|Javier Bardem (Being the Ricardos)||+4800|
Smith is compelling as Richard Williams, the enigmatic father of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams. It’s his third leading actor nomination. He’s paid his dues and his time to win has arrived.
Pick: Will Smith (King Richard) -600.
Best Actress Oscar Odds & Pick
Speaking of Colman, here she is, nominated for her work in The Lost Daughter. She’s one of three past winners up for the Best Actress Oscar along with Nicole Kidman (Being The Ricardos) and Penelope Cruz (Parallel Mothers). There’s also -160 favorite Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye), up for a Best Actress Oscar for the third time.

|Penelope Cruz (Parallel Mothers)||+330|
|Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos)||+470|
|Kristen Stewart (Spencer)||+850|
|Olivia Colman (The Lost Daughter)||+1100|
It appears that the hot ticket is Cruz. Her film was such a late release she wasn’t even nominated for some of the earlier honors during awards season. Kristen Stewart could be a sleeper to watch. Her performance as Princess Diana in Spencer was transformative.
This recent BOOST for Penélope Cruz has to be the greatest late surge that I’ve witnessed during Oscar season. pic.twitter.com/r76bCTqlNN

Cruz’s previous win was the 2008 Best Supporting Actress for Vicki Cristina Barcelona. She’ll be the eigth woman to sweep both awards.
Pick: Penelope Cruz (Parallel Mothers) +330.

Campion rhymes with champion and Power of the Dog director Jane Campion will be making Oscar history when she picks up her golden statue as this year’s best director.
