According to the Academy’s website, Whoopi is officially slated to hand out an Oscar this Sunday. But now the rumor mill is suggesting that Whoopi will be doing a little more than giving out just one trophy.

Whoopi is officially slated to hand out an Oscar this Sunday.

Fans have also noted that Whoopi Goldberg is the only previous Oscars host scheduled to appear as a presenter this Sunday, helping drive these curiosities further.

It’s possible that Goldberg has spent the last several weeks behind the scenes preparing to host.

Despite The View co-host Joy Behar insisting that Goldberg is off with pneumonia, fans believe the timing is just too perfect for it to be a coincidence.

A Hollywood Tradition

Goldberg has been the official host of the Oscars four times before, as recently as 2001. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Whoopi in the hosting seat, and given her great success in that role, she’s overdue.

Of course, all this rumor about Whoopi as a host comes after months and months of drama surrounding the hosting of the Oscars, beginning when original host Kevin Hart pulled out after a scandal of old tweets had him in hot water.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Whoopi in the hosting seat, and given her great success in that role, she’s overdue.

The plan for this year’s ceremony was to be a host-free version of the Oscars, which has been done only five times before, as recently as 1989. But seeing Hollywood legend Whoopi Goldberg step in as a surprise once the show starts would not only be a welcome addition, it’d be historical.
