  • Keep reading below for my breakdown of the latest odds on the matches for March 4th, and also a breakdown of what I think are the best plays for the day

The group stage for Stage 1 of the 2021 Call of Duty League season has come to an end, with six teams earning themselves spots in the winner’s bracket. The two top seeds to come out of the group stage were, to no surprise Dallas Empire and Atlanta FaZe. Atlanta and Dallas both earned themselves a bye in the first round for the winner’s bracket. The other top four teams consist of the LA Thieves, LA Guerrillas, OpTic Chicago, and the New York Subliners.

These four teams will face off in the winner’s bracket in Round 1, and the winners will face off against either Dallas or Atlanta in Round 2.

Our first match of the day is between the LA Thieves and the LA Guerillas. Both teams are looking to cement themselves as the best team in LA. The LA Thieves came second in their group overall, with an impressive win over the New York Subliners. The LA Guerrillas were able to snake their way into the winner’s bracket with an upset victory over the Toronto Ultra.

In our second match of the day, we find the New York Subliners facing off against OpTic Chicago. After a slow start, the Subliners swept the London Royal Ravens but to the surprise of most fans swept the Minnesota Rokkr as well. They pair up against the fan-favorite OpTic Chicago in the first round of the winner’s bracket.

LA Thieves vs LA Guerrillas

LA Guerillas have shown they are not the best control team in the game by far. They lost full in their matchup against Atlanta FaZe on Garrison by getting swept 3-0. Not to mention, they also lost their control match to the Paris Legion on Checkmate 3-1.

Their only control map win in the group stage came against the Toronto Ultra on Raid in a 3-1 fashion. That being said, with LA Thieves being one of the best SND teams and the Guerrillas being one of the worst control teams outside the Seattle Surge, finding a path to victory could mean winning two hardpoints.

LA Thieves come into this series off a  3-0 loss to the Dallas Empire in the group stage finals. Aside from that, the Thieves looked very dominant. TJHaly has shown that he is coming back to his previous form in Cold War and has been a force to play against in SND.

They had to fight off a Seattle Surge squad on a Game 5 SND after losing a hardpoint. That being said, I arguably think the Surge has more firepower than the Guerillas. With a few days to prepare, I think the Thieves will rebound nicely in this matchup to make up for their loss to Dallas.

Pick: LA Thieves -1.5 (-125)

OpTic Chicago vs New York Subliners

One thing we noticed about this New York Subliners team is that they have lived or died on the back of their sub play. They looked extremely dominant to start off their match against the Dallas Empire but ended up being reverse swept losing 3-2.

One thing I noticed when watching the Subliners on control is they become extremely staggered towards the end of rounds. The communication begins to breakdown and they throw rounds away that teams like OpTic would not let slip away. The New York Subliners have been products of Asim’s unsuspected dominance to start the season.

OpTic Chicago has shown they are by far the best control team in Cold War. They are yet to lose a control map this year, coming into the Major with wins over Atlanta FaZe, Toronto Ultra, LA Guerrillas, Paris Legion, and Florida Mutineers.

On the other side, the Subliners come into this matchup as an average control team but are a dominant Search and Hardpoint squad. OpTic, on the other hand, has been worrisome on SND, but they finally showed some life taking an SND victory over LA Guerrillas.

The meltdown last week in their second half against the Dallas Empire showed the lows the Subliners’ players can hit. Overall, OpTic has shown nothing but dominance so far in Cold War and I think they are the best respawn team out there.

Pick: OpTic Chicago ML (-163)
