The first Blast Pro Series event of the year is set to take place in Sao Paulo, Brazil from March 22nd-to-23rd. The event will feature six of the premier teams in the world of Counterstrike, and is laid out in a unique best-of-one single group round robin format.

The two top teams will advance to the Grand Final and play in a best-of-three to see who takes the title in Brazil. There should be some fierce competition in Sao Paulo, but this one may just be another tournament that you can chalk up for Astralis.

Another Title for the Danes?

This should come as no surprise to anyone who follows Counterstrike, but Astralis are once again coming into a tournament as the odds-on favorite to win it all. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, they are the best team of all-time in CS:GO. Period.

Their consistency is unbelievable every single map, it’s like they are playing as close to perfect Counterstrike as possible. It’s truly hard to see even see an end to their dominance too. I don’t know what it’s going to take to beat these guys at one event, let alone knock them off the throne.

They almost 16-0’d NiP in the playoffs of a major. To even get a 16-0 is extremely rare, due to the amount of sheer dominance a team has to show to not let one round go but to do so in the playoff stage of a major was truly insane.

It would be foolish to not bet on Astralis to come out on top in Brazil. They may find themselves losing a map or two, but I honestly wouldn’t be surprised at all if they came out on the other side flawless in Sao Paulo.

Pick: Astralis (-150)

The Last Two Standing

Since Astralis should be the ones to win Blast Pro Series Sao  Paulo, let’s take a look at what team may find themselves across the big stage from the Danes come Sunday. I think that realistically there are three teams that can find themselves in the Grand Finals out of the remaining five, and they are Liquid, MiBR, and ENCE.

After a disappointing finish in Katowice, Liquid will be looking for redemption in Brazil.

After a disappointing finish in Katowice, Liquid will be looking for redemption in Brazil. After a solid Legends stage where they went 3-0, they bowed out in the quarterfinals to eventual major runner-up, ENCE.

Many had their hopes high for Liquid as they probably have the strongest North American roster ever assembled, and after falling short in Poland it’s up to them to show they can bounce back and live up to their potential. They will without doubt come out with a fire inside them, but we’ll just have to wait and see whether they have enough to reach the finals in Sao Paulo.

MiBR will be on home turf at Blast Pro Series Sao Paulo, so you can expect them to come out banging. The new (old) squad now have one event under their belt where they showed flashes of the brilliance that this roster was once famous for, and the hometown crowd should fire them right up.

They were able to reach the semifinals in Katowice where they were eventually beaten by Astralis, but not without a good fight from the Brazilians. They showed that they can compete with the world’s best despite it being their first event reunited, so they should be a serious threat moving forward.

ENCE stole the hearts of the Counterstrike world in Katowice en route to a second place finish in their first ever major. I have been saying for months that this is a good team and once they start getting invites to bigger events they will prove themselves to the Counterstrike world.

ENCE was able to find wins over the world’s number two and three teams on their way to a finals appearance at IEM Katowice.

Well they certainly proved they could hang with the best. ENCE was able to find wins over the world’s number two and three teams on their way to a finals appearance at IEM Katowice, and looked ice cold doing so. Riding the momentum from Katowice, they could certainly come into Brazil and make it to back-to-back finals against Astralis.

Picks: Astralis (-450), MiBR (+200)

Easy Pick

There is no other pick here than Europe, in my opinion. I think Astralis has this tournament in the bag, and wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t even lose a map in the process.
