  • The CWL Playoff Play-In takes place on July 19th
  • At such short value are Luminosity worth taking?
  • Is there a sleeper pick to take one of the two qualifying spots?

With the CWL Pro League wrapping up last week it’s time for look forward to the last two events of the year: CWL Miami and CWL Champs. First though we need to focus on which two teams will fill out the CWL Playoff field in Miami, and that all starts at the CWL Playoff Play-in which take place on July 19th.

Heading into the Play-In, Luminosity are listed as the odds-on favorite to make it into the CWL Playoffs to compete for the grand prize of $500,000. They are pretty much a lock to make it through the Play-in with their new look roster, but since there are two spots up for grabs, what other team stands the best chance of also getting the opportunity to play for the big money in Miami?

LG Guarantee

Luminosity came into the CWL this year as a serious threat, with what looked to be one of the most talented rosters on paper in all of Call of Duty. They started out well with a fourth place finish at CWL Vegas and they even managed to find a win at CWL Fort Worth, but aside from those placings they struggled for most of the year.

Luminosity finished off in the Pro League strong with a 3-1 record in their final four games.

Since they made some roster moves that saw them add up and comers in the pro scene, Brack and Skyz, they seem to have that championship caliber team that they thought they had at the beginning of the year. They finished off in the Pro League strong with a 3-1 record in their final four games, with their only loss coming to 100 Thieves, who are without a doubt the best team in the CWL.

The only question mark around Luminosity for the majority of the year has been the play of their SMG players. John and Slacked have shown in previous Call of Duty titles that they are on the upper echelon when it comes to SMG players, but haven’t really been able to get to that level consistently in Black Ops IV.

If they are able to at least play somewhat average throughout the Play-In and into the CWL Playoffs they stand a very real chance at taking home the $500,000 prize for first place. So, with one of the two spots virtually a lock, what other team stands the best chance of making it through the Play-In?

Gotta Be EG

The other team that I think is going to come out on the other side at the CWL Playoff Play-In is Evil Geniuses. They struggled a lot for most of the season, but after making a few adjustments to their roster EG are certainly a team that can compete with the best of the best.

They have three world champions on their roster, one of them being one of the OG’s of CoD, two-time world champ Jkap. They have all the experience in the world, well into the double digits with combined tournament wins and I think that will be the X-factor for EG at the Play-In.

Expect both LG and EG to come out on the other side of the Play-In and have the chance at taking home the title at the CWL Playoffs.

Picks: Luminosity (-190), Evil Geniuses (+600)
