2021 Charles Schwab Challenge 4th Round Odds, Picks and Preview

• Jordan Spieth leads the Charles Schwab Challenge by one shot over Jason Kokrak after 3rd round play

Through 54 holes of the Charles Schwab Challenge, it appears it may just become a two-horse race, with Jordan Spieth edging Jason Kokrak by one stroke, with third place Sergio Garcia five back. Spieth, who won this tournament in 2016 and has been a runner-up twice (2015, 2017), is attempting to win for the second time this season, both in his native Texas (Valero Texas Open). Kokrak, who won the CJ Cup at Shadow Creek for his first PGA Tour victory this season, has other ideas on his mind after a brilliant back-nine 31 Saturday.

Coming into this championship, Spieth was the odds-on favorite to lift the trophy with +1000 odds, and now that he’s out in front of the pack, those have dropped to -240 to win for the 13th time in his career. Kokrak wasn’t among the favorites at +4700, but he’s clearly the biggest challenger to Spieth’s crown with one round to go.

Should the final pairing falter, 2001 Charles Schwab Challenge champion Garcia is waiting in the wings to wrestle the trophy from them, along with fellow Ryder Cupper Ian Poulter and Sebastian Munoz, who are tied for fourth. Read on to see the odds and best bet heading into Sunday’s final round.

Spieth a Hard Man To Beat

Quite possibly this tournament is already a two-man race, or realistically a three-horse battle if Sergio Garcia can pull a rabbit out of the hat. If he doesn’t, it’ll be Spieth and Kokrak mano a mano. Spieth is first in strokes gained putting and fourth in SG: tee-to-green this week. Kokrak is sixth and first in those categories. In pretty well all major strokes gained categories, both of them are lapping the field.

Really it comes down to two things for Sunday – Spieth has won twelve times, while Kokrak has the lone victory, so Spieth clearly has the advantage there. They both aren’t exactly great in final round scoring average, with Spieth being 119th, but Kokrak is even worse at 183rd. With very little separating them this week, as they’re the top-two in birdies made, the experience in not only winning but having three top-2’s on this track gives Spieth the edge.

1. Sergio Garcia (+2200): The 2001 winner of this tournament begins the final round in third place, five shots back of Spieth. Through three days, El Nino is first in strokes gained off-the-tee, second in SG: tee-to-green and T-1st in scrambling, and also has just two bogeys through 54 holes. Winner of the Sanderson Farms Championship this season.
2. Sebastian Munoz (+12000): If you’re looking at a huge underdog with long odds that could win, look no further than Sebastian Munoz. Though he begins the final round seven shots back of Spieth, he’s in a tie for fourth place. Seventh in total birdies on the campaign, which he’ll need to make in bunches to mount a big comeback. Third in strokes gained putting through three days and T-7th in birdies. He’s won once before, at the 2019 version of the Sanderson Farms.
