  • Webb Simpson is the slight +1000 favorite over Hideki Matsuyama

The final tournament of the PGA Tour regular season is set to tee off at the Wyndham Championship from Sedgefield Country Club. Those not in the top-125 in the FedEx Cup standings after this week will be shut out of postseason contention, where they can’t vie for the FedEx Cup title and the $15 million prize.

Just five players in the top-25 of the world rankings are competing, as most of the big names have opted for rest as they gear up for the playoffs. Making birdies in bunches is imperative for success at this relatively easy track, with the last five champions shooting 21 or 22 under-par en route to victory.

Webb Simpson, who has finished second or third here in the last four years (but never won it) is the betting favorite to win over Hideki Matsuyama, who lost the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational playoff on Sunday. Louis Oosthuizen, the top-ranked golfer in the field, has the third shortest odds to claim the trophy.

Kevin Na Sports Great Value

It’s fairly surprising that Kevin Na hasn’t played the Wyndham Championship more often, considering his success the two times he’s played it. In 2016, the five-time tour winner placed in a tie for tenth, and the following year he was even better, winding up in a tie for fourth.

Subsequently, in his eight rounds at Sedgefield Country Club, Na has been solid in several key ‘strokes gained’ categories.

Kevin Na’s Strokes Gained Stats In Last 8 Rounds at Sedgefield

Total Short Game Putting Tee-to-Green Ball Striking Approach
4 5 9 15 20 21

Just two starts ago, Na very nearly won his second event of 2021, as he was the runner-up at the John Deere Classic. While he doesn’t have the length to contend week-in, week-out on the tour, there are certain courses suited to his game, and Sedgefield Country Club is one of them. Na’s +3500 odds to win outright are very intriguing.

2021 Wyndham Championship Best Value Picks

  1. Kevin Kisner (+5500): Kevin Kisner finished T-3rd at this tournament last year, to go along with other top-10’s at this venue in 2014 and 2016. Fourth in total strokes gained in last twelve rounds at Sedgefield. In last four starts, Kisner has a pair of top-10’s.
  2. Mito Pereira (+6500): Mito Pereira has been turning heads all season, winning three times on the Korn Ferry Tour to earn automatic promotion to the PGA Tour. He then compiled three straight top-six finishes before the Barracuda Championship last weekend. Included in that was a playoff loss for a bronze medal at the Olympics.
  3. Adam Schenk (+7000): At the Barracuda, Adam Schenk was the 54-hole leader before eventually finishing in fourth place. That was his second fourth place result in his last four starts, having led on Sunday at the John Deere Classic as well.
