  • The AT&T Byron Nelson from McKinney, TX, tees off Thursday, May 11th
  • Scottie Scheffler is the heavy +450 favorite to win over Jordan Spieth
  • We’ve narrowed down the golfers with the best chance of emerging victorious and provided the best value bets below

With just one week to go before the PGA Championship, the PGA Tour stops in Texas for the AT&T Byron Nelson. Most of the top players have opted for rest to prepare for the second major championship of the season. However, world #2 Scottie Scheffler and #10 Jordan Spieth, both Texas natives, are competing.

For the third straight year this event is being contested at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas. The first two iterations saw K.H. Lee secure his first two titles, where low scoring is imperative. The winning scores have been 25 and 26 under-par, so expect yet another birdie fest.

K.H. Lee Attempting Three-Peat

It may be low hanging fruit, but K.H. Lee has dominated this golf course, so there’s no reason to expect a let up in 2023. The two times this event has been contested at this track, he’s won. Lee is able to make a ton of birdies, as he ranks 32nd in birdie average on the campaign. He’s also coming off a T-8th showing at Quail Hollow last week.

K.H. Lee’s Strokes Gained Stats Last Two Years At AT&T Byron Nelson

Total Ball Striking Tee-To-Green Approach Short Game Putting
1 1 1 1 4 4

Should Lee accomplish the rare three-peat, he’d be the first to do so at the same tournament since Steve Stricker at the 2009-11 John Deere Classic. Five golfers have shorter odds than him this week, so you’re still getting the two-time defending champion at decent +2200 value.

2023 AT&T Byron Nelson Picks and Value Bets

  1. Seamus Power (+4000): Seamus Power is used to racking up birdies, as he’s 23rd in birdie average this season. The 2-time PGA Tour winner also has had success at this track, placing T-9th and T-17th the last two years. In that span, he ranks first in strokes gained: short game, fourth in total strokes gained and seventh in putting. He’s cooled off somewhat after a red-hot start to the season but he’s comfortable at this venue.
  2. Michael Kim (+9000): Michael Kim has made seven straight cuts on tour, and he kicked it off with a fifth place result in Puerto Rico. Then, just last weekend, he flirted with contention, before settling for seventh place. In the last 24 rounds, Kim is sixth in total strokes gained, and he’s top-25 in SG: tee-to-green and putting.
  3. Sam Stevens (+9000): Another golfer with +9000 long odds is Sam Stevens. In the last 24 rounds on tour, he’s fifth in total strokes gained (of those competing), and eighth in ball striking. Very recently he was T-3rd in Puerto Rico then was runner-up at the Valero Texas Open. He’ll be interesting to monitor in the top 10/20 markets.
