  • The Mexico Open from Vidanta tees off Thursday, April 27th
  • Reigning Masters champion Jon Rahm is a heavy +260 favorite over Tony Finau
  • We’ve narrowed down the golfers with the best chance of emerging victorious and provided the best value bets below

One week after the duo of Davis Riley and Nick Hardy won the Zurich Classic, the PGA Tour returns to individual stroke play golf at the Mexico Open at Vidanta. Riley is in this field, while Hardy opted not to tee it up.

This tournament was contested for the first time last year, and it resulted in Jon Rahm snagging the title. He’s back to defend his victory after winning a Green Jacket at the Masters earlier this month.

Last season, this par-71 layout yielded a lot of birdies, with Rahm’s 17-under-par score better than three golfers for his lone win on the PGA Tour in 2022. He enters this week already with four championships under his belt on the campaign.

Garrick Higgo +5000
Brandon Wu +5000
Ben Martin +5000
Aaron Rai +5000
Robby Shelton +5000

This field doesn’t boast much star power, outside of Rahm and Tony Finau. Alex Noren is the only other top-50 golfer in the world rankings teeing it up. Rahm is a heavy +260 favorite to win over last year’s runner-up, Finau.

Wyndham Clark Quietly Posting Strong Season

Wyndham Clark has been knocking on the door for his first victory for quite some time, at it very nearly happened at last week’s Zurich Classic. He partnered up with Beau Hossler and they were 54-hole leaders, before settling for third. Clark has made 14 straight cuts, where he’s ended up inside the top-40 on all but one occasion.

There’s a theme in this article, and that’s searching for players who are long overdue to become a PGA Tour winner. Clark fits that bill, and his stellar play has him as the third favorite at +1800. Obviously Jon Rahm is by far the better player, but it’s never wise to invest in a golfer with such miniscule +260 odds against 143 other players. Clark’s +1800 number is easier to digest, and he’s continuing to put himself in the running for that elusive victory.

2023 Mexico Open Picks and Value Bets

  1. Patrick Rodgers (+3000): Patrick Rodgers nearly broke through into the winner’s circle two starts ago, as he was the 54-hole leader at the Valero Texas Open. A tough final round dropped him down to fifth, but then he followed that up with at top-20 at Harbour Town. In those eight rounds, he’s tops in strokes gained: tee-to-green, second in ball striking and fourth in total strokes gained. Last year, Rodgers had a top-10 at this tourney.
  2. Beau Hossler (+4000): As mentioned earlier, Beau Hossler was the second half of the Wyndham Clark duo that held the 54-hole lead in New Orleans. They weren’t able to close the deal, but they wound up in third place. For the campaign, Hossler has racked up six top-25’s, as he’s popped on boards a few times in search of that first title.
  3. Chez Reavie (+8000): After selecting three golfers who are aching to break through, let’s pivot to a three-time PGA Tour winner. Chez Reavie has been solid lately, with a T-6th at the Valero Texas Open and a T-11th at the RBC Heritage. In those eight rounds, he’s second in SG: tee-to-green, third in total strokes gained and sixth in putting. Reavie also had a strong Mexico Open debut a year ago, winding up T-13th.
