The Waste Management Open, aka the biggest party in golf, tees off on Thursday. This event is a can’t miss stop on the PGA Tour, and the perfect lead-in to the Super Bowl. Scottie Scheffler headlines the field, and while he isn’t likely to miss the cut, at least a few of the top-18 names are bound to trunk slam early. Below, we’ve compiled a list of their odds to make and miss the cut, plus our favorite bets to target in each category.

Scheffler boasts by far the shortest odds to make the weekend at -2000, and the longest odds to come home early at +1000. He’s followed by Justin Thomas and Hideki Matsuyama in both categories, who also boast the second and third shortest outright odds respectively. Further down the board, we’ll find Sahith Theegala, who’s come dangerously close to winning this event twice. Despite his past success here, we’re looking to fade him at juicy +200 odds to miss the cut. Odds as of Feb 4th at Bet365. Claim the Bet365 promo code before making any golf bet this week.

Theegala to Trunk Slam

  • Sahith Theegala to Miss Cut (+200)

Let’s address the elephant in the room when it comes to this selection. Yes, his course history here is excellent. Theegala should have won this event in 2022, before he gagged it away on the 71st hole. Last year, he played in the final group on the weekend, and posted a top-five.

But past history isn’t always indicative of future success. Theegala enters this week in underwhelming form, struggling in the categories you need to excel in to fare well at TCP Scottsdale. Over the past 24 rounds, he ranks 64th in the field in strokes gained off the tee, and 65th in approach. He’s 120th in opportunities gained, a metric that measures how many birdie looks inside 15-feet you give yourself per round, and 124th in par-4 scoring on holes between 450-500 yards.

That last stat is especially key, since this course features six holes within that range. TPC Scottsdale also puts a premium on par-5 scoring, and Theegala ranks 107th in that metric over the last 24 rounds.

Not surprisingly, it’s been a minute since he posted a quality finish. He’s been outside the top-35 all five starts this season, with a 52nd and 53rd place showing over the last two weeks.

Make the Cut Parlay

  • Clanton / Kitiyama / Horschel / Taylor to all Make the Cut (+322)

That’s enough doom and gloom, now let’s focus on golfers who profile well to make the weekend for our +322 make the cut parlay. We’ll start with statistical darling Luke Clanton. He’s reeled off three top-15’s in his past five starts, and leads the field over the last 24 rounds in strokes gained off the tee and opportunities gained.

Let’s pair him with Kurt Kitiyama, who’s posted top-23 results in his lone two appearances at the Waste Management. Kitiyama is top-13 over the last 24 rounds in strokes gained off the tee, on approach, and opportunities gained, and first in par-5 scoring.

Next up is Billy Horschel, who’s fresh off a great week at Pebble Beach. Horschel gained 5.1 strokes on approach, and has back-to-back top-21 finishes. He’s five-for-five in made cuts here since 2020, with two top-nine results.

Finally, we’ll round out the parlay with Nick Taylor. The defending champ was also second here in 2023, and just won in Hawaii. He went through a rough patch following his Waste Management Open victory last year, but has found his game again. Taylor’s gained at least 4.1 strokes on approach in three straight starts, and ranks top-30 in the field in ball striking, opportunities gained and par-4 scoring on holes between 450-500 yards over the last 24 rounds.
