BetMGM and the Minnesota Vikings are looking to the Great White North for their newest partnership.
BetMGM this week announced a multi-year partnership with the Minnesota Vikings. BetMGM is now the official sports betting partner and online casino partner of the NFL franchise in Canada.
“Vikings fans bring a level of passion and loyalty that extends well beyond game day,” Matt Prevost, Chief Revenue Officer at BetMGM, said in a release. “As the home of one of the largest collections of sports-themed casino content in North America, BetMGM is uniquely positioned to combine sports fandom with iGaming. We are eager to start football season off strong with another fantastic partnership especially as we expand our reach in Canada to Alberta.”
Canadian Partnership for BetMGM
As part of the new multi-year partnership, BetMGM will now have the right to use Minnesota Vikings markets across approved Canada sports betting apps, online casino, and marketing activities in Canada. Additionally, a new casino game, “Vikings Big Kick LuckyTap,” by Design Works Gaming is available now at BetMGM Casino in both Alberta and Ontario.
“As we continue to deepen our connection with Vikings fans across Canada, we’re proud to welcome BetMGM as the team’s official sports betting and online casino partner in Canada. Their commitment to innovation and fan engagement aligns well with our organization, and we’re excited to create memorable experiences that celebrate Vikings football and connect with Canadian fans in new and meaningful ways,” Martin Nance, Minnesota Vikings Chief Marketing Officer, said in a release.
BetMGM launched in Alberta on July 13, 2026, its first international expansion since entering Ontario in 2022. Alberta residents age 18-and-older and Ontario residents age 19-and-older can access BetMGM in the provinces.
Minnesota Has Yet to Legalize Sports Betting
BetMGM’s unique Canada-only partnership with the Minnesota Vikings is due in part to Minnesota legislators being unable to come to an agreement on sports betting legalization over the last several years.
Numerous pieces of Minnesota legislation have been introduced by the House and Senate, but none have crossed the finish line. Each year legislators will actively discuss sports betting legislation, which has been roundly supported by Minnesota tribes and professional sports franchises, but never seem to gain any momentum with lawmakers.
In March, four Senators introduced SF 4139, a bill to legalize online sports betting in the Great Lakes State. The bill allowed for 11 licenses to eligible Minnesota tribes, who would have been able to partner with up to one sports betting company to use their sports betting platform.
The bill, however, quickly stalled in the Senate Commerce and Consumer Protection committee. The committee did not approve a rules and administration committee report and the legislation never moved forward.
