  • With seven-straight losses, the LG Twins (25-20) have dipped down to fifth in the Korea Baseball Organization standings
  • Aside from the Twins, no other team has a current win/loss streak past two games

The LG Twins are in a free fall right now as losers of seven straight. At the outset of the skid, they were second in the KBO — and now they’re down to fifth.

The most disheartening part, if you’re a Twins admirer, is that the streak hasn’t been mired with bad luck. They’ve only led once past the second inning and their average margin of defeat is 4.8 runs.

So what’ll it take to get them out of this hole? Can they do it Saturday? I’m sure they’d like to know, as should you.

Here’s a look at the entire slate of KBO games for Saturday, June 27th. All games start at 4:00 am ET (1:00 am PT).

Twins Can Hit Pinto

Saturday does present an opening for the LG Twins to snap out of their funk, as they face SK Wyverns starter Ricardo Pinto. In two starts vs. LG this year, Pinto has had mixed results: first a 10-run (three earned) loss, then a one-run no decision.

In those outings, he allowed 22 baserunners in 10.2 innings while only striking out four. In other words, the Twins are putting the ball in play against him and racking up hits.

As a team, LG is tied for third in the KBO in on-base percentage (.352), while SK lags behind (.321, ninth). Oh, and LG is 5-2 against SK this year, even after Friday’s defeat.

The Twins’ starter in this matchup is Chan-heon Jung, who holds a solid 3-1 record and 3.34 ERA. As long as the Twins can continue getting hits off Pinto, Jung is capable of doing the rest.

Pick: LG Twins (-130)

Underdog Dinos?

Help me understand if this makes sense: the first-place NC Dinos, who just beat the Doosan Bears by six runs on Friday, are now underdogs against those same Bears in Saturday’s rematch.

NC is 5-2 against Doosan this year, by the way.

It doesn’t seem to make sense, until you look closer at the pitching matchup: NC’s Sung-Young Choi (0-0, 6.75 ERA) vs. Doosan’s Raul Alcantara (7-1, 3.70 ERA). Quite a difference.

To be fair, though, Choi’s numbers account for only 10.2 innings of work in 2020. So he could easily turn it around in a couple of starts.

Alcantara’s numbers are excellent, including a June 10 start vs. the Dinos in which he allowed just one run in seven innings.

But it’s unfair to hold Choi’s minuscule sample size against him. And to get plus-odds on NC, with the offense they have (and just displayed in a nine-run effort against Doosan), that’s too enticing to avoid.

Pick: NC Dinos (+120), Over 10.5 (-115)

Samsung Streak

The Samsung Lions needed extras on Friday, but they’ve now won three in a row against the Lotte Giants (and four wins in their past five games overall).

Again, there’s some awareness of the present value here, but as a team receiving plus-odds against an opponent they’ve found success against, the Lions present an interesting play for bettors.

Pick: Samsung Lions (+115)
