Odds as of October 27th at DraftKings.

Fried At Liberty To Strike Out Batters

Perhaps the most surprising outcome from Max Fried’s last start of the NLCS was that the Braves left-hander only struck of three Los Angeles Dodgers batters.

It marked the first time in 24 starts, a stretch dating back to the end of May, that Fried failed to fan a minimum of four batters during a start. He’s set on 3.5 strikeouts as a total for his Game 2 start.

The 4.2 innings that Fried worked in his last start was his shortest appearance since going 3.2 innings against the Washington Nationals on June 1.

Jose Urquidy, on the other hand, looks to be a sound play on the under for his strikeout total. Like Fried, the Astros right-hander is established with a total of 3.5 strikeouts.

Urquidy has dipped below that number in each of his last two starts. He’s also been under 3.5 strikeouts in three of his last four appearances, two of his last five and four of the past seven.

In 21 appearances so far this season, the under on that total was the correct call eight times.

Pick: Jose Urquidy under 3.5 strikeouts (-145); Max Fried over 3.5 strikeouts (+140)

It’s A Braves (And Astros) New World

This will be a unique occurrence in these days of frequent player movement. Neither of these starting pitchers have ever found themselves previously facing any of the opposing hitters.

With no batter vs pitcher comparisons to draw upon, it’s left to assess which Braves are hitting right-handers well and which of the Astros are displaying their batting prowess when dealing with a southpaw.

Houston first baseman Yuli Gurriel is absolutely tearing it up against lefties in the postseason. He’s batting .643 (9-for-14) with a homer and 5 RBI. Catcher Yordan Alvarez (10-for-22, .455, home run, 6 RBI) is also showing a hot hand. Outfielder Michael Brantley (8-for-25, .320, 4 RBI) and shortstop Carlos Correa (5-for-16, .313, 3 RBI) are hitting right-handers solidly as well.

It’s still “Joctober” . . . er, October for a few more days and that means you can never overlook Braves playoff phenom Joc Pederson. He’s been displaying a power stroke against righties in these playoffs. Pederson is htting .280 (7-for-25) but three of those hits are homers. He’s also driven in seven runs.

Outfielder Eddie Rosario is proving to be a postseason sensation, and he’s done his best work against right-handers. Rosario is batting .481 (13-for-27) with two homers and 10 RBI.

Picks: Yuli Gurriel +0.5 hits (-220); Yordan Alvarez +0.5 RBI (+160); Eddie Rosario +0.5 hits (-220); Joc Pederson +0.5 home runs (+300)
