It’s do or die for the Baltimore Orioles (101-63, 52-39 away) tonight as they head to Arlington down 0-2 in their best-of-five ALDS with the Texas Rangers (94-72, 50-31 home). And the odds suggest that Baltimore’s first playoff appearance in seven years is going to end winless, as the O’s are positioned as +118 road underdogs tonight at Globe Life Field. First pitch is slated for 8:07 pm ET.

The MLB public betting trends for Game 3 heavily back the Orioles: Baltimore is getting 70% of moneyline handle as +118 road underdogs. The under is also receiving a large share of handle, getting 74% of all money bet on the game total as of 1:00 pm ET. A win on Tuesday would put the Rangers in the ALCS portion of the MLB playoff bracket for the first time since 2011.

BAL vs TEX Game 3 Starting Pitchers

Baltimore will hand the ball to 6’2 righty Dean Kremer, who will be making his first postseason appearance. The Rangers have the luxury starting veteran Nathan Eovaldi in Tuesday’s MLB lineups. Not only does Eovaldi have nearly 50 innings of postseason experience under his belt, he has, on the whole, been excellent in the playoffs throughout his career. Eovaldi’s postseason ERA of 2.90 is over a full run lower than his career regular-season ERA of 4.10.

4.12 ERA 3.63
4.51 FIP 3.88
1.31 WHIP 1.14

Eovaldi continued his strong playoff exploits against Tampa Bay in the AL Wild Card, going 6.2 innings while allowing six hits, no walks, and one run with eight strikeouts in the Rangers’ series-clinching Game 2 victory.

Eovaldi didn’t face the O’s in the 2023 regular season, but did see them three times in 2022 while still with the Red Sox. In those three starts, he allowed 15 hits and just three earned runs over 20.2 innings while racking up 17 Ks and walking just a single hitter.

Kremer saw the Rangers once in 2023 and, while it was a quality start, it was far from perfect. He pitched 6.1 innings of five-hit, two-walk, three-run ball in a 5-3 home setback. His lone start against the Rangers in 2022 was worse – 4.2 innings, eight hits, two walks, five earned runs – though Baltimore did manage to win 7-6 in extra innings.

Tuesday’s MLB player props list Texas slugger Adolis Garcia with the best odds to hit a home run (+235) closely followed by teammate Corey Seager (+265). Mitch Garver (one home run in four at-bats) and Marcus Semien (one home run in six at-bats) are the only hitters on the Ranger roster who have previously homered off of Kremer.

Only one Orioles player has gone deep of Eovaldi (Adam Frazier: one homer in three at-bats) despite the O’s roster having 140 total at-bats against the Ranger righty.

Orioles vs Rangers Predictions for Game 3

Apart from Baltimore’s massively impressive road record during the regular season, very little about this matchup appears to favor the Orioles. Eovaldi has a long and successful postseason resume, along with a solid track record against this group of Baltimore hitters. Kremer has yet to hold the Rangers to fewer than three runs and, for his career, has poor home/road splits (4.25 ERA at home versus 4.75 ERA on the road).

Expect the Rangers to do to Kremer and the O’s exactly what they did to Zach Eflin on the Rays in Game 2 of the Wild Card: open up a big early lead and cruise to victory on the strength of another strong start from Eovaldi.
