Going To The Max

Since arriving in Los Angeles at the beginning of August, Dodgers right-hander Max Scherzer has struck out over 7.5 batters in six of 11 starts. He did it in four successive starts from August 26-September 12. However, he’s not had more than seven strikeouts in any of his past three starts.

Scherzer pitched in two win or go home scenarios for the Washington Nationals during their run to the 2019 World Series title. He struck out six in five innings in the NL Wild Card game against the Milwaukee Brewers. And in Game 7 of the World Series facing the Houston Astros, he fanned three over five innings of work.

He also turned in a dominant performance against the Cardinals in his only previous postseason work facing the Redbirds. In Game 2 of the 2019 NLCS, Scherzer struck out 11 batters in seven innings.

In 22 career postseason appearances, Scherzer has gone over 7.5 strikeouts six times. However, he’s done it just once in his past 12 playoff pitching assignments – that 2019 game against St Louis.

Only four NL ballclubs struck out fewer times this season than the Cardinals, who fanned on average 8.28 times per game.

Pick: Scherzer under 7.5 strikeouts (-125)

Edman’s The Man

Tommy  Edman is one of those batters who probably falls out of bed knocking base hits. In last season’s NL playoffs, the St Louis second baseman had a hit in all three games.

This season, Edman hit safely in five of his last six games and 24 of the past 31 games. On top of that, Edman is a .444 lifetime hitter (4-for-9) when facing Scherzer.

Surprisingly, Edman’s base hit prop only requires him to be a one-hit wonder in order to go to the top of the charts and cash in a payday. Granted, the odds aren’t the greatest (-220) but you should never look a gift horse in the mouth.

Appropriately, this game is being carried by TBS, because the Dodgers’ infield Turner twosome figure to be broadcasting shots all over the ballpark.

Third baseman Justin Turner is a career .333 hitter (3-for-9) against Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright. Second baseman Trea Turner wears out Wainwright even more effectively. He’s 5-for-14 (.357) against the St Louis right-hander with an RBI.

Last season, Justin Turner clubbed eight hits during the World Series and seven through the NLCS. He finished the regular season this year hitting at a .313 clip (5-for-16) over his last five games.

Since arriving in LA in August, Trea Turner has hit safely in 19 of 23 games. That includes seven multi-hit games, which you’ll need to cash a winner on his hits prop.

Trea Turner comes into the playoffs riding an eight-game hitting streak. He’s also assembled six- and four-game hit streaks as a Dodger.

Picks: Tommy Edman over 0.5 hits (-220); Justin Turner over 0.5 hits (-220); Trea Turner over 1.5 hits (+170)
