A trip across the pond might be the tonic the St Lous Cardinals (31-44) need to turn their season around.
They need look no further than their London opponent and division-rival Chicago Cubs (36-38) as a point of reference.
Major League Baseball will make its second-ever foray into the UK to play ball. The first and only previous time was 2019, when the Red Sox and Yankees squared off.
The 2-game set kicks off Saturday afternoon (June 24) at 1:10pm ET from London Stadium. You can watch the game on FOX.
Cubs vs Cardinals Odds
Team | Moneyline | Runline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Chicago Cubs | -126 | -1.5 (+115) | Ov 14 (+100) |
St Louis Cardinals | +108 | +1.5 (-138) | Un 14 (-122) |
The MLB odds favor the streaking Cubs, who are –126 on the moneyline, though just a implied win probability of 55.75%. It was a scorefest the last London Series, with 50 combined runs and 65 hits, which is likely why the set total is 14 runs.
Chicago comes into this series having won three straight and 10 of their last 12, which has them closing in on .500, while putting themselves into the NL Central picture, just 5.5 games back of the division-leading Reds.
St Louis enters having had their 4-game win streak just snapped. They have the 5th-worst record in baseball, and are already nine games back of the Reds.

Probable Pitchers
Chicago will send 3rd-year man Justin Steele to the mound, looking for his eighth win of the season.
Steele is coming off a win over a very good Baltimore Orioles squad, going five innings, giving up five hits, two earned runs with a walk and four strikeouts as the Cubs won 3-2.

It was his first start since the lefty was shelved with forearm soreness in his throwing arm.
While he hasn’t pitched enough innings to qualify, Steele’s 2.71 ERA would rank him seventh, sandwiched between Gerritt Cole and Clayton Kershaw.
Steele vs Wainwright Stats
7-2 | Record | 3-1 |
2.71 | ERA | 5.56 |
1.07 | WHIP | 1.67 |
.284 | OBA | .356 |
3.65 | SO/W Ratio | 1.85 |
St Louis counters with veteran Adam Wainwright, who will be making just his ninth start of the year.
The 41-year-old was solid in his last outing, getting the win as he threw a season-high 6.1 innings, scattering seven hits and three earned runs in a 5-3 win over the Mets.
Wainwright did give up a pair of dingers, as he walked two and struck out three.
The right-hander is 19-14 with a 3.84 ERA in 48 career starts against the Cubs.
Chicago and St Louis Players to Look Out For
In their last nine games, the Cubs have been lights out, outscoring the opposition 64-25, while posting a 2.44 team ERA.
Nico Hoerner has been red-hot for the North-siders. He homered and drive in three in their last game, an 8-3 win over the Pirates to complete the sweep. He is batting .314 with 12 RBIs over the last 12.
Mike Tauchman is also swinging a hot stick, batting .325 with eight RBI’s in the last 11 games.

For the Cards, rookie Jordan Walker has impressed in his debut season, and is a longshot pick in the NL Rookie of the Year odds. He’s currently collected hits in 13 straight, hitting .400 with four homers and eight RBIs in that span.
St Louis  is coming off a 3-0 loss to the Nationals, however, stopping a win streak where they scored 30 runs and clubbed 11 home runs across four games.
St Lou’s top hitters, Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt, are a combined 7-for-18 (.389) against Steele.

Cubs vs Cardinals Prediction
Steele is the only Cubs pitcher to pick up a win over the Cardinals this season, when St Louis took two out of three at Wrigley in a 3-game set in May.
In the series finale, he went six innings, allowing seven hits and three runs, while walking three in a 10-4 win.
Cubs vs Cardinals 2023 H2H Results
Date | Away Team | Home Team | Result |
---|---|---|---|
May 10 | Cardinals | Cubs | CHC, 10-4 |
May 9 | Cardinals | Cubs | STL, 6-4 |
May 8 | Cardinals | Cubs | STL, 3-1 |
St Louis has dominated this recent head-to-head, winning six of the last seven meetings. Thankfully for the Cubs, the Cardinals are the home team only by name Saturday, as Chicago is 0-6 in their last six at Busch.
The figure we have to target here is the total: in 21 combined starts for Steele and Wainwright, only one game has crossed 14 runs (a Cardinals 16-8 romp over the Dodgers).
Look for strong pitching with some scoring, just not at those previous 2019 figures.
Pick: UNDER 14 runs (-122)
