The Chicago Cubs (7-5, 2-away) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (7-7, 4-3 home) are back at it on Saturday for the second game of their three-game set. The first pitch is scheduled for 9:10 PM ET at Dodger Stadium. Read on for an analysis of Cubs vs Dodgers.

The Cubbies took the opener by a score of 8-2 Friday evening and will turn to Jameson Taillon on the mound here to hopefully stop Mookie Betts and Co. As for LA, they counter with Michael Grove.

The Dodgers are the favorite here with -162 moneyline odds while the Cubs sit at +136. Los Angeles had won 10 in a row against Chicago before Friday’s victory for the visitors. Needless to say, it’s been a lopsided matchup.

Chicago vs Los Angeles Probable Pitchers

Taillon hasn’t done too well so far with his new ball club, posting a 7.00 ERA in two starts, tossing nine innings in total. On April 9th, the big righty took the hill against a strong Rangers lineup and gave up five runs in total and four earned in five frames. While Taillon did strike out seven, he got hit around.

Unfortunately, recent trends don’t exactly favor Taillon on Saturday. His ERA sits at 7.71 in three career outings versus the Dodgers. Jason Heyward is hitting .400 against him as well therefore it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the veteran in the lineup.

Taillon vs Grove Stats

Grove won a spot in the rotation after Ryan Pepiot suffered an injury, but he’s failed to give the Dodgers consistency. In fairness, Grove actually looked half-decent in his debut, allowing just three earned runs in four frames.

However, his most recent start was a downright disaster. The 26-year-old was touched up for nine earned by the Diamondbacks on 12 hits, failing to make it out of the fourth inning. That shot his ERA up to a putrid 14.73.

Chicago made a splash in free agency in more ways than one, headlined by the signing of Dansby Swanson. So far, it appears they made the right moves. The Cubbies offense in particular is thriving, ranking fifth in runs scored with 5.5 per game while hitting .280 as a group. The only thing missing is the long ball. They’ve only hit 10 homers.

But, it was a slugfest on Friday at Chavez Ravine. Chicago clubbed five bombs, with catcher Yan Gomes going deep twice on his own. The lineup banged out 12 hits in total while the pitching staff held the Dodgers to just three.

Can Dodgers Bats Bounce Back?

As mentioned, LA was very quiet at the dish in the opener. Max Muncy had two of their three hits and they also struck out 10 times. Capitalizing on opportunities hasn’t been a problem with 6.1 runs per game, so it wouldn’t be surprising the least to see this ball club come out and rake on Saturday.

Noah Syndergaard actually put together a solid outing, tossing six innings and surrendering just three runs while striking out nine. There was just a lack of run support and the bullpen also struggled to limit the damage once he departed.

Cubs vs Dodgers Prediction

The Dodgers are too good of a team to not figure it out offensively here. Plus, their record against the Cubs is absolutely stellar. In those 10 consecutive victories, LA covered the runline in eight. That’s the best bet.
