If you want to get your money on the Mariners, now is the time before the odds swing even farther.

Are the Mariners for Real?

There are encouraging signs the Mariners could be legit. They have the second best run differential in the American League at +32. The 160 runs they’ve scored are 44 more than any other team in the AL. This is an elite offense led by Domingo Santana who already has 26 RBI which is, you guessed it, best in the AL. They aren’t squeaking out wins; they are beating teams down. That’s what elite teams do.

Marco Gonzales has been great on the mound for Seattle, sporting a 4-0 record with a 3.32 ERA and 1.26 WHIP. Replacing James Paxton, who was shipped to the Yankees, with Gonzales as the team’s ace has gone about as well as could be expected. Having him lead the team on the mound gives the M’s a shot to keep this run going.

AL Contenders Stumble Out of the Gate

Another reason to like the Mariners is that other contenders seem to be struggling to find their footing in the early going. Despite sweeping the Tampa Bay Rays the Boston Red Sox still sit at 9-13 for the season. The New York Yankees can’t seem to keep anyone healthy and sit at 11-10 so far.

These teams obviously have lots of time to rebound, but a strong start from Seattle gives them a great chance to make the playoffs at the very least, and as everyone knows in baseball, once you’re in anything can happen.

Take the Value and Make a Play on the Mariners

Any time you see a team take that big a jump in the odds it’s worth paying attention. Seattle may have other contenders breathing down their neck at some point, but for now it’s worth considering the action before the odds go any lower.
