Having fallen to .500 for the first time in more than three months, the New York Mets will try to get back on track when they visit the San Francisco Giants at 9:45 pm ET Tuesday in the middle game of a three-game series at Oracle Park.
The Mets (59-59) had their losing streak reach four games Monday night as they fell 7-5 in the series opener and are at breakeven for the first time having a 13-13 record May 6. The Mets have also lost eight of their last 11 games and 13 of 18.
The Giants (77-42) not only have the best record in the major league but are on a hot streak. They have eight wins in their last nine and 13 in their last 16 games and are favored Tuesday.

San Francisco Giants | -155 | -1.5 (+130) | Under 8 (+100) |
Odds as of August 17th at DraftKings
The moneyline opened with the Giants favored at -150 and has gone up slightly. It is expected to be a bit of a breezy night in San Francisco with the gametime temperature forecast for 63 degrees and winds south-southwest at 5-10 mph with possible gusts up to 29 mph.
Probable Pitchers
Marcus Stroman (8-11, 2.79) will try to break the Mets’ losing streak as he faces Logan Webb (6-3, 2.96)
Stroman ended a personal three-start losing streak his last time out when he beat the Washington Nationals last Thursday in New York. He surrendered only one run on three hits in 5.1 innings with eight strikeouts and two walks.
Stroman vs Webb
8-11 | Record | 6-3 |
2.79 | ERA | 2.96 |
4.45 | xERA | 3.53 |
1.12 | WHIP | 1.14 |
3.68 | SO/W | 3.46 |
Stroman took a shutout into the sixth inning. He began cramping in the fourth inning on a hot and humid night but stayed in the game after being visited by manager Luis Rojas and an athletic trainer.
That was impressive, though maybe quite as impressive as doing a 20-second handstand.

It marked the first time the Mets won a game in which Stroman did not complete six innings since July 4.
Stroman has 11 quality starts in 24 outings but has gone four straight turns without a QS and notched only one in his last 10 games. He is 4-5 with a 2.64 ERA in 12 road games and is 2-5 at night with a 2.31 ERA in 11 starts.
This will mark Stroman’s second career appearance against the Giants. He had a no-decision in 2016 at Oracle Park while pitching for the Toronto Blue Jays, allowing four runs (two earned) in six innings.
Though overshadowed by some of his teammates, Webb is having an outstanding season and is 5-0 with a 1.53 ERA in 10 starts since taking his last loss May 5. Since coming off the injured list July 9 after missing five weeks with a strained right shoulder, Webb has made seven starts and has a 2-0 record and 1.75 ERA.
His last time out, Webb pitched six scoreless innings to defeat the Colorado Rockies last Thursday at Oracle Park, yielding three hits while striking out eight and walking two. He was aided by double plays in the first and second innings and hit a two-run double in the 7-0 victory.

Webb is on a run of four quality starts, giving him eight for the season in 16 outings. He is 4-0 with a 1.58 ERA in eight games (seven starts) at home and 2-2 with a 2.63 ERA at night in 10 starts.
Webb will be facing the Mets for the first time.
Limited Exposure to Webb
Outfielder Kevin Pillar is the only Mets player who has faced Webb, going 1 for 5.
Third baseman Evan Longoria has 35 career plate appearances against Stroman, but the rest of the Giants have 31 combined. In those 66 trips to the plate, they have slashed .290/.333/.484.
Batting Average vs Starting Pitchers
Mets Batters | Batting Average vs Webb |
---|---|
Kevin Pillar | .200 |
Giants Batters | Batting Average vs Stroman |
Wilmer Flores | .500 |
Kris Bryant | .333 |
Curt Casali | .333 |
Brandon Crawford | .333 |
Alex Dickerson | .333 |
Buster Posey | .333 |
Evan Longoria | .273 |
Tommy La Stella | .250 |
Donovan Solano | .000 |
Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford has been one of the best hitters in baseball since July 1 as he has compiled a .427 batting average (47 for 110) in 28 games. He also has two home runs, 19 RBIs and 16 runs scored.
That has led to a push from his manager for National League MVP votes.

Jonathan Villar, filling at shortstop for the Mets for the injured Francisco Lindor, is hitting .350 (14 for 40) in his last 11 games. Villar has scored seven runs in that stretch with four home runs, eight RBIs and two walks.
Mets right fielder Michael Conforto has been on base in 15 straight games, hitting .304 (14 for 46) with 11 runs, four doubles, two homers, five RBIs and eight walks.
Mets vs Giants Pick
The Giants won the series opener on Monday night as Kris Bryant hit two home runs and Crawford went 4 for 4. It was the teams’ first meeting since 2019.

The Giants are rolling, the Mets are sinking, and Webb has quietly been one of the better starting pitchers in the NL since the All-Star break. All signs point to the Giants winning again.
Pick: Giants -155
