The cross-town rivalry heats up tonight as the Chicago Cubs make the short trip to Rate Field to take on the Chicago White Sox at 7:40 PM ET. Kicking off Game 1 of this series, the 28-16 Cubs look to build on an elite start to their campaign. Meanwhile, the 22-21 White Sox aim to defend their home diamond and climb the standings.
Both squads enter this contest riding clean, error-free victories. The White Sox recently cruised to a 6-2 win over the Kansas City Royals, highlighted by a Randal Grichuk home run. The Cubs arrive after blanking the Atlanta Braves 2-0, backed by a stellar pitching performance from Ben Brown and a clutch homer from Ian Happ.
Despite the White Sox’s current five-game winning streak, it’s the Cubs that are listed as favorites in the MLB odds. They’re currently laying -145 odds on the moneyline and I think you can make an argument that the price isn’t short enough. Keep reading for my favorite predictions and player props picks for Cubs vs White Sox on May 15, below.

My favorite bet tonight is on the Cubs moneyline. They boast a collective .743 OPS and a solid 3.78 team ERA per the MLB starting lineups, outclassing the White Sox’s .721 OPS and 4.22 team ERA. With Edward Cabrera taking the mound for the North Siders, I expect the road team to control the pace of the game.
Edward Cabrera vs Sean Burke Stats
Cabrera brings an electric, strikeout-heavy arsenal, holding a 3-1 record and punching batters out at a high rate (8.35 K/9). He averages nearly six innings per start, though he occasionally allows traffic on the basepaths, yielding a .266 opponent batting average.
On the flip side, Sean Burke possesses superior peripheral metrics. He boasts a highly impressive 3.84 FIP and has been incredibly stingy with free passes, posting a brilliant 2.05 BB/9 to help navigate high-leverage situations.
The Cubs arrive at Rate Field boasting superior run production metrics, and much shorter World Series odds. Despite a pedestrian .225 batting average on the road, they manufacture 4.57 runs per game by generating hard contact (88.2 mph average exit velocity) and hitting 1.14 home runs per game. Conversely, the White Sox average just 4.29 runs per game at home.
Because of this discrepancy, I’m backing the Cubs, although it doesn’t hurt that their top-ten run suppression (3.77 team ERA) provides a comfortable floor to secure the victory.
Player Props Picks for Cubs vs White Sox
For player props, I am targeting Seiya Suzuki to record Over 1.5 Total Bases at +130. He boasts a .482 slugging percentage with seven home runs this season.
I also recommend taking Edward Cabrera Over 5.5 Strikeouts at -110. Given his 8.35 K/9 rate and a favorable matchup against a White Sox offense missing key pieces, he is in a prime spot to eclipse this total.
