  • The second game of a Midwest tilt between the Reds and Cardinals goes down on Saturday, June 10th
  • St. Louis has won eight of their last 11 at home after starting the year with a 5-13 home mark
  • See the Reds vs Cardinals odds below, as well as our best bet and scheduled starting pitchers

Taking the baseball world by storm, Elly De La Cruz has brought a big spotlight to the Cincinnati Reds (29-35, 12-17 road) for the first time in years. One of baseball’s most unique prospects because of his power, speed and beanpole frame, he has shown incredible potential in just four major league games.

However, the Cardinals (27-37, 13-16 home) don’t care much for all the hoopla and are solely interested in shutting down their division rivals and the rookie this weekend. They got off to a good start with a win over the Reds Friday night, where De La Cruz was held to one infield hit and struck out three times in four at-bats.

On Saturday, June 10th, the middle game of this three match set takes place with opening pitch scheduled for 2:15pm ET from Busch Stadium in a game that will be televised on Bally Sports Network. Check out the Reds vs Cardinals odds below as we also offer up our best bet and picks.

Reds vs Cardinals Odds

Team Moneyline Runline Total
Cincinnati Reds +150 +1.5 (-140) O 8.5 (-115)
St. Louis Cardinals -170 -1.5 (+120) U 8.5 (-105)

After a horrible start to the year, St. Louis finished May with a 15-8 run and looked poised to put their brutal first month behind them, but then went 0-5 to begin June. Showing a streaky side, the Cardinals are -170 moneyline favorites to win their third straight after that losing slide.

Expect a scorcher in middle America for this matchup as the forecast is calling for lots of sun with the game time temperatures expected to be around 85 degrees and very little wind.

Cincinnati vs St Louis Probable Pitchers

Saturday will be just the second career start for Reds southpaw Andrew Abbott who was brilliant in his Major League debut, tossing six innings of one hit, shutout ball against the Brewers earlier this week.

Having just turned 24, Abbott compiled astronomical strikeout rates in the upper minors over the last two years. Between Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Louisville this campaign, he punched out 90 batters while walking 17 across 54 innings.

Issuing free passes may be a problem when dealing with MLB starting lineups. He allowed four walks in his debut and was lucky that none of them came back to hurt them, but that’s a concern he’ll need to avoid at this level in the future to have continued success.

Abbott vs Mikolas Stats

Andrew Abbott
VS
Miles Mikolas
1-0 Record 4-2
0.00 ERA 3.74
0.83 WHIP 1.34
.053 OBA .282
1.5 SO/W Ratio 4.0

Like his squad, Miles Mikolas got off to a very rough start, allowing at least five earned runs in each of his first three outings this campaign. Ever since, he’s been pitching like a guy who should be considered in the
Cy Young odds, allowing just 15 earned runs in his last 10 starts, compiling a 2.24 ERA during that span.

Every time the veteran takes to the hill, he gives his side a chance in the MLB odds, as he’s been by far the best starter on his team since that rough early patch. In Mikolas’ 13 appearances this season, the Cards are 8-5, meaning almost 30% of their victories come when he’s on the hill.

Hot Shot Rookies to Watch Out For

This game will be filled with first-year players looking to make their mark. In fact, the Reds have three of the top 10 contenders in the NL rookie of the year odds expected to be playing on Saturday in the aforementioned De La Cruz, Matt McLain and Spencer Steer as well as having Abbott on the mound.

For the Cardinals, Jordan Walker was cast as the chalk to win rookie honors prior to the season beginning at +372, but has since seen his odds take a nosedive as he is currently a +6000 bet to win the award.

Perhaps all the hype surrounding De La Cruz, who just got to the majors this week, has inspired the Cardinals outfielder, as he went deep in their first matchup on Friday night, making a big contribution to their victory.

Reds vs Cardinals Prediction

Over their last five head-to-head meetings in St. Louis, the Reds have only notched one victory. St. Louis has proven to be a streaky team this season, although that’s been more on the losing side than the winning side.

Still, with Mikolas on the mound, the Cardinals are our pick here. He tossed seven shutout innings against the Reds just a couple weeks ago and he should be able to use his savvy to shut down a rookie laden Reds lineup.

Pick: St. Louis Cardinals Moneyline (-170)
