The Detroit Tigers (21-32) face the New York Yankees (38-15) on Sunday at Yankee Stadium. The series finale has a scheduled first pitch of 11:35am ET. The Tigers will send Rony Garcia to the mound, while the Pinstripes counter with Jordan Montgomery.
New York is a big favorite for this one and a big favorite to win the AL East. After staring the season with +350 odds (behind Toronto) to win the division, the Bronx Bombers are now prohibitive favorites at -240.
Meantime, the Tigers started with +3500 odds to win the AL Central and have seen those odds lengthen to +10000. Detroit is projected to win 78.5 games, while Boone’s squad is expected to win 92.5 games in the MLB win totals.

Tigers vs Yankees Probable Pitchers
The 24-year-old Garcia took the loss in the first game of a doubleheader on Tuesday against the Twins in an 8-2 decision, surrendering six runs on seven hits and a walk over five innings.
He struck out seven. Even with the strikeouts, it was his worst performance of the season for Garcia in his second start. He will likely return to the bullpen once the likes of Eduardo Rodriguez (ribs) and Tyler Alexander (elbow) are ready to return. For now, Garcia carries a splendid 29:6 strikeout-walk ratio over 23 innings into Sunday’s tilt.
Final line for #Tigers RHP Rony GarcÃa: 5.0 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 7 K. 90 pitches, 54 strikes.
11 swings and misses: one fastball, eight curveballs, two changeups. 11 called strikes. Curveball: 37% CSW rate.

Meantime, Montgomery went seven strong innings in a 9-1 Yankees rout of the Angels the same day. The 29-year-old lowered his ERA on the season from 3.30 to 3.04, lowered his WHIP from 1.058 to 1.011 and won his first of nine starts in 2022.
Jordan Montgomery has allowed three earned runs or fewer in each of his 10 starts this season and two runs or fewer in eight of those starts. He's allowed three runs or fewer in 34 of his 40 starts since the start of 2021, including 25 of his last 27 starts since June 20, 2021.

The lefty got nine swing-and-misses against a formidable Halos’ lineup, with four coming on his curveball. He threw 87 pitches, one shy of his season high.

To say that it’s been a rough first two games of the series for Detroit’s offense would be a massive understatement.
The Motor City Kitties have only managed a combined four hits so far against the AL East leaders, with Miguel Cabrera providing two of them.

The future Hall of Famer is 1-for-6 against Montgomery in his career with three strikeouts.
Meantime, New York is reaping the benefits of a healthy Aaron Judge. The 30-year-old slugger — who proved his 2017 Rookie of the Year campaign was no fluke last season — blasted his MLB-leading 21st homer of the year in Saturday’s 3-0 shutout win over Detroit. Judge is now slashing .316/.386/.689 and is jockeying for AL MVP favorite status with Cleveland’s Jose Ramirez.

Not to be outdone, Anthony Rizzo blasted his 13th big fly of 2022 on Saturday. The offense isn’t the only reason why Boone’s club is off to one of the best starts ever, though.
New York’s pitching staff has allowed only 152 runs this year, the fewest through the first 53 games of a season in franchise history. That’s a ridiculous 2.9 runs/game allowed.
The Yankees currently have +600 odds to win the Fall Classic, while the Tigers are at +30000 in the World Series odds.

Tigers vs Yankees Prediction
If Hinch were sending Tarik Skubal to the bump on getaway day, I’d give Detroit a chance. But with Garcia going against red-hot Pinstripes, the Tigers are staring a sweep right in the face.
As nice of a bounce-back Detroit has enjoyed over the last month following a rough April, Judge and Co. won’t let the visitors win in the series finale.
Pick: Yankees ML (-300)
