Oliveira vs Poirier Odds & Betting Analysis

After Dustin Poirier knocked out Conor McGregor in January, he was offered the chance to fight Charles Oliveira for the vacant belt but decided to take the third McGregor fight, which he also won by stoppage. Now, the two get to throw down to determine who truly is the best lightweight as many have called Poirier the uncrowned champ.

Oliveira vs Poirier Recent Fights

Oliveira
VS
Poirier
Michael Chandler, win by TKO (title fight) Fight 1 Conor McGregor, win by doctor stoppage
Tony Ferguson, win by decision Fight 2 Conor McGregor, win by KO
Kevin Lee, win by submission Fight 3 Dan Hooker, win by decision
Jared Gordon, win by KO Fight 4 Khabib Nurmagomedov, loss by submission (title fight)

Oliveira still doesn’t get the respect he deserves as the lightweight champ but if he can beat Poirier on Saturday night, he can get start to get that. As for Poirier, this could be his final shot to become an undisputed champion, and there have been rumblings that should he win, he may retire on top, although he has said that isn’t true.

Oliveira vs Poirier Stats

Oliveira
VS
Poirier
32 Age 32
5’10” Height 5’9″
74″ Reach 73″
17 UFC Finishes 13

This is a phenomenal matchup and it’s a fight that is evenly matched. On the feet, Poirier is the better technical striker and has more power, however, Oliveira’s striking is very unique, and can find the openings, as he did against Chandler. On the ground, Oliveira is the better grappler and can sink in a submission quickly. That being said, Poirier’s takedown defense is solid and he’s tough to get down.

Even though Oliveira rallied to beat Chandler last time out, he still has a knock that he is a quitter, which was evident in his early UFC fights. Although I don’t think he has that same quit, his chin is there to be hit and he does get rocked.

Ultimately, I expect Poirier to be able to keep the fight standing and avoid the power shots of Oliveira and piece him up. Poirier moneyline is a solid play at -165 in the UFC 269 odds. Poirier to win inside the distance is also a great bet.

Pick: Dustin Poirier (-165)

Nunes vs Pena Odds, Pick and Prediction

Amanda Nunes is arguably the most dominant champion in the UFC and returns to 135lbs to defend her belt against Julianna Pena in a fight not many people are giving Pena a shot.

Nunes & Pena Recent Fights

Nunes
VS
Pena
Megan Anderson, win by submission (featherweight title fight) Fight 1 Sara McMann, win by submission
Felicia Spencer, win by decision (featherweight title fight) Fight 2 Germaine de Randamie, loss by submission
Germaine de Randamie, win by decision (bantamweight title fight) Fight 3 Nicco Montano, win by decision
Holly Holm, win by TKO (bantamweight title fight) Fight 4 Valentina Shevchenko, loss by submission

As the odds suggest, this shouldn’t be a close fight and I agree with that. Pena is a good fighter but she isn’t on the level of Nunes on the feet or the ground. Nunes should be able to hurt Pena early on the feet and will either get the knockout or hurt her enough and then sink in a choke as she did to Megan Anderson. Regardless, Nunes is a free square parlay piece of sorts while a better bet is Nunes inside the distance. However, just not a ton of value to play Nunes moneyline on it’s own at -770 in the UFC 269 odds.

Pick: Amanda Nunes (-770)

  • Caesars Sportsbook Boost – Charles Oliveira to Win by Submission (boosted to +350)

Other UFC 269 Odds and Picks:

  1. Geoff Neal (-112): Both Neal and Ponzinibbio have struggled recently but I just think Neal is the better striker and will be able to win a decision.
  2. Kai Kara-France (+125): I don’t think the flyweight move for Garbrandt. His speed won’t be the same while Kara-France is a heavy hitter and will find the chin of Garbrandt to get the KO win.
  3. Sean O’Malley (-345): O’Malley is too good of a striker for Paiva and will find his chin in the first or second round to get the KO win.
