We’ve got an early tip-off between the rebuilding Magic and battling Clippers, followed by the Utah Jazz taking on the Wizards in the capital. With their winning streak ending on Friday, the Houston Rockets are on the road in Memphis, as the Grizz look to continue their impressive play without Ja Morant.
On the second night of a back-to-back after a great win over Minnesota, the Cavs welcome the Kings to Ohio. There’s also a battle at the top of the East between Chicago and Miami.
The last two games of the night see the Spurs host the Nuggets, while Steph Curry continues his pursuit of the three-point record at Wells Fargo Center. Golden State is narrowly favored for the game.

Franz Wagner Assists
Franz Wagner has recorded over 3.5 assists in his last eight games. He’s got an assist rate just shy of 30% over that span, and a turnover rate of just 14.3%. Wagner is looking after the ball in an impressive manner considering the number of assists he’s been getting.

The season average of 5.5 potential assists has been increasing of late, with that figure sitting at seven over the last eight games. Jalen Suggs’ absence has opened up Wagner to take on more playmaking; he ranks second on the team in potential assists since Suggs’ injury.
Wagner’s recent track record points towards this being a pretty comfortable over, particularly at plus odds. Perhaps the Clippers’ elite defense contributes to what looks like a low line, but with Paul George out and Nic Batum doubtful, Wagner’s matchups are not going to be as challenging. The Clippers’ defense as a whole will be considerably weaker.

Absences Force Bane to Create
Desmond Bane has taken his game to the next level this season. Mainly a spot-up shooter as a rookie, the sophomore version of Bane has much more to his game on offense. Attacking off the bounce and carrying a heavier offensive load as a starter, Bane has a crucial role to play for the Grizz on Saturday night.

Memphis is without Ja Morant, Dillon Brooks and Ziaire Williams. In minutes without Morant and Brooks, Bane’s numbers obviously jump up. His assist rate is just 11.2% overall. This figure is up at 19.4% in minutes without Morant and Brooks. He has the second-highest usage rate on the team in those minutes.
While he’s only averaging 2.1 dimes per game, Bane has gone over the 2.5 line in three of his last five. As a team, Memphis is moving the ball well, ranking fifth in assists per game for the season and seventh in assist rate over the last five. They naturally register more assists when Morant is on the bench or unavailable.

Memphis are hitting shots, with the ninth-best effective field goal percentage over their last five games. Bane is up at 5.6 potential assists per contest over that span, a leap from his 3.7 mark in November.
Houston is still a subpar defensive team despite their recent wins. Memphis’ offense should be in for a fun night, and Bane has a big part to play in that.
