  • The Golden State Warriors are 2.5-point favorites over the Memphis Grizzlies in their NBA game scheduled for Wednesday, January 25
  • Memphis (#2) and Golden State (#3) were the 2-3 seeds in the Western Conference last season
  • The Warriors beat the Grizzlies 123-109 on Christmas Day in their only previous meeting this season

Are the Golden State Warriors (23-24, 22-24-1 ATS) and Memphis Grizzlies (31-16, 22-23-2 ATS) rivals? The NBA certainly thinks that to be the case.

It’s rivalry week on the NBA schedule and the powers that be are opting to pit Golden State against Memphis as part of the showdowns.

Golden State did eliminate Memphis from the playoffs last season en route to winning the NBA Finals. In the prior season, the was the Grizzlies beating the Warriors in an NBA play-in game.

The Warriors are 4-1 straight up in the last five meetings between the two teams. Memphis has lost five in a row SU at Golden State.

It’s the Warriors who are set as 2.5-point home favorites as the two teams meet again. Golden State is 0-4 against the spread in the club’s last four home games.

Memphis vs Golden State Injury Report

The Warriors are anticipating the return of center James Wiseman (ankle) on Wednesday. However, forward Andre Iguodala (hip) is out.

Memphis center Steven Adams  is out for a second straight game. He’s expected to miss 3-5 weeks due to a sprained PCL in his right knee. Adams is fourth in the NBA with 11.5 rebounds per game. SG John Konchar (concussion protocol) is also out.

Grizzlies Are Slumping

Memphis comes to the Bay Area mired in a three-game losing streak. With Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins opting to rest Ja Morant and Adams hurt, the Kings were whipping the Grizzlies 133-100 in Sacramento on Monday.

PG Morant, a contender in the NBA MVP odds, is 10th in the NBA in scoring, averaging 27.2 points per game. He’s also sixth in the league with 7.9 assists per game.

Warriors Launch Homestand With Setback

Coming home from a solid 3-2 road trip, the Warriors took a pratfall against the Brooklyn Nets, losing 120-116 on home court.  Returning from a one-game team-ordered rest, guard Steph Curry was pacing the Warriors with 26 points in the loss. Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins went 0 of 10 from 3-point range during the game.

Curry also didn’t play when Golden State beat Memphis on Christmas Day. Jordan Poole led the way that day with 32 points and Thompson added 24. Draymond Green was good for a double-double, contributing 13 points and collecting 13 rebounds.

Poole, who has replaced Kevon Looney in the NBA starting lineups for Golden State, is averaging  26.3 points per game over the past four games.

Memphis vs Golden State Prediction

Golden State is 17-6 SU at home this season, but the Warriors haven’t been nearly as impressive as a home cover squad. Following those four straight home ATS failures, Golden State sits 14-8-1 ATS on home court. The Warriors are 4-2 ATS overall in their last six games.

Memphis is 8-4 ATS in the last 12 games against Golden State. Overall, the Grizzlies are 11-3 SU in their last 14 games. However, they are 1-4 ATS in their past five games. Memphis is also 1-6 ATS in the last seven games facing a Western Conference opponent.

Pick: Golden State Warriors -2.5 (-110)
