Cleveland Cavaliers Betting Analysis

After snapping a five-game losing streak on Friday, Cleveland returned to the court on Sunday to pummel Miami. They took down the Heat 113-87, led by Darius Garland’s 25 point, 7 assist effort.

The Cavs also got 20 points from reserve Cedi Osman, while Evan Mobley chipped in a double-double (15 p, 10 r). Cleveland survived a cold shooting performance from leading scorer Donovan Mitchell, who was just 5-of-12 for 13 points, a game after dropping 34 on Charlotte.

Mitchell entered play on Sunday ranked fourth in the entire NBA in scoring, while Garland ranks fourth in assists. The Cavaliers are sixth in offensive rating, eighth in points per game and second in three-point field goal percentage. Cleveland is knocking down 39.4% of its threes this season, and buried 13 triples against the Heat.

Defensively, the Cavs come in with the fifth best defensive rating, and rank top-10 in points allowed and rebounding in their own end.

They held the Heat to a 38.8% field goal percentage, but they’ve shown major leaks on defense during the past two weeks. Cleveland has allowed 113+ points in five of its past seven contests, which is three points more than its season average.

On the injury front, Kevin Love (thumb) is doubtful for Monday’s tilt, as is Caris LeVert (ankle).

Atlanta Hawks Betting Analysis

Atlanta meanwhile, enters play having alternated wins and losses over its past seven games. They stole a victory on Saturday 124-122 against a shorthanded Raptors squad, after falling by 25 to the Celtics in their previous outing.

They’ve beaten Milwaukee twice and Philadelphia during that stretch, two of the seven shortest contenders in the NBA Championship odds.

Trae Young led the way versus Toronto with 33 points and 12 dimes, assisting on the game-winning bucket by AJ Griffin in the dying seconds.

Young enters play ranked second in assists, while teammate Dejounte Murray sits eighth. The duo are the only two teammates to average 21+ points and 7+ dimes, and they’re a big reason why the Hawks are ninth in scoring.

Atlanta is vulnerable in its own end however, which should help turn this game into a high scoring affair – as we’ll discuss. The Hawks rank 18th in scoring defense, and surrender the eighth most offensive rebounds.

Toronto dominated them in the paint over the weekend, pulling down 17 boards, while putting up 78 points in the paint.

Hawks vs Cavaliers Prediction

These are two of the top-five over teams in the NBA coming into play on Monday, and it’s not hard to see why. Both offenses are humming, while the Hawks defense is just flat out underwhelming. Cleveland’s recent defensive struggles, Sunday notwithstanding, give credence to betting over 224.5 here, as does Atlanta’s pace.

NBA Top-5 Over Teams

Team Over Record Over % Total +/-
OKC Thunder 11-5 68.8% +9.9
Detroit Pistons 11-6-1 64.7% +3.6
Atlanta Hawks 10-6 62.5% +1.8
Boston Celtics 9-6-1 60.0% +8.6
Cleveland Cavaliers 9-6 60.0% +5.1

The Hawks rank third in the NBA in pace so far, behind only the Warriors and Thunder. They’re 10-6-1 to the over on the season, with four of their five games as underdogs exceeding the total.

Cleveland is 9-6 to the over, with 71.4% of their home games so far clearing the total.

Pick: Over 224.5 (-110)
