State Farm Arena will host the NBA Playoffs for the first time since 2017 when the visiting New York Knicks meet the Atlanta Hawks at 7:00 p.m. ET Friday in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference first round series.

The Knicks evened the best-of-seven series at one game apiece with a 101-92 win in Game 2 on Wednesday night in New York as two-point favorites. Including the regular season, the Knicks have won four of their last five games but are underdogs in this one.

Until the Game 2 loss, the Hawks had won five straight games and three in a row against the spread.

Injury Report

The Knicks’ Nerlens Noel played 16:33 in Game 2 and showed no ill effects from the sprained right ankle he sustained in the series opener.

The Hawks have no short-term injuries.

Rose Blooms Off Bench

Derrick Rose led the way for the Knicks in Game 2 with 26 points and four assists in 38:44 off the bench. It was his second-highest point total of the season.

While Elfrid Payton is still technically the starter, Rose has basically taken over point guard duties in the playoffs. Rose scored 17 points in a Game 1 loss.

Rose averaged 14.7 points and 26.8 minutes a game during the regular season. He also had 10 20-point games.

Julius Randle scored 15 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished four assists. That came after receiving the NBA’s Most Improved Player award during pregame ceremonies in an adorable way.

However, Randle has struggled in the first playoff appearance of his seven-year career, scoring a total of 30 points on 11-of-39 (28.2%) shooting in the first two games. He averaged 24.1 points in the regular season.

Reggie Bullock also had 15 points for the Knicks, who shot just 38.3% (36-of-94) from the field. New York made up for the poor shooting by holding a 54-41 advantage in rebounds.

RJ Barrett has 27 points and 19 rebounds in the series, including 13 and eight in Game 2.

Young Playing Like Playoff Vet

This is also the first taste of the postseason for the Hawks’ Trae Young. However, the third-year point guard has handled the playoffs with aplomb so far.

In Game 2, Young led the Hawks with 30 points and seven assists. Even getting spit on by a fan could not deter him.

Young scored 32 points in Game 1, including the game-winning floater with 0.9 seconds remaining in a 107-105 victory. During the regular season, he had 22 games of 30-plus points while averaging 25.3 points and 9.4 assists.

Bogdan Bogdanovic and De’Andre Hunter each had 18 points and six rebounds in Game 2.

Bogdanovic, though connected on just 2-of-13 three-point field goal attempts. Hunter, who missed much of the season with a knee injury, had his best scoring game since Jan. 27.

Clint Capela scored just four points but had 12 rebounds and five blocked shots. Capela pulled down an NBA-leading 14.3 boards a game in the regular season.

Led the league in Rebounds and was 4th in blocked shots. Clint Capela was a HUGE factor to the Hawks success this season and deserved to be a finalist for DPOY.

John Collins will need to stay on the floor Friday after being limited to 14:38 in Game 2 because of foul trouble. He had averages of 17.6 points and 7.4 rebounds during the regular season.

The Hawks made just 31-of-84 shots from the floor, a 36.9% clip.

Knicks Have Upper Hand Lately

The Knicks swept the regular season series 3-0, including winning once in Atlanta. New York has also won seven of the last nine meetings with the Hawks and notched the win in Game 2.

State Farm Arena should be rocking for the first playoff game in Atlanta in four years. However, the Knicks have shown in recent seasons they know how to beat the Hawks and should at least keep this one close.
