The New York Knicks are one win away from sending the Atlanta Hawks packing in Round 1 of their opening round series.
They travel to Atlanta for Game 6 to seal the deal, and the books like them to end it on the road, setting the Knicks as road favorites in the NBA odds.
Tip-off is scheduled Thursday night at 7pm ET from State Farm Arena in Atlanta with ESPN providing the broadcast coverage.
Read below as I share my Knicks vs Hawks prediction, the latest injury news and betting splits for Game 6.
Knicks vs Hawks Prediction
- Pick: Knicks ML (-140 at bet365)
The Knicks have rebounded in a big way after a pair of 1-point losses actually had them down 2-1 in the series.
New York has turned up the defense, stifling the Hawks’ attack, holding them under 100 points in back-to-back games.
The feel-good CJ McCollum story has turned into a nightmare for the veteran guard. After scoring at least 23 points through the first three games of the series, CJ has managed 23 points total across the last two losses, including six points in Game 4.
He hasn’t had much support, as all-star Jalen Johnson has shot just 11-for-27 the last two games (40.7%), including a 2-for-10 mark from downtown.
Atlanta is shooting just 32.2% from 3-point range in the series, which is 12th in the playoffs.
New York, meanwhile, seems to have unlocked something in its offense, allowing them to be more dynamic, while not placing so much burden on Jalen Brunson to be the lone offensive hub.
The Knicks have started using Karl-Anthony Towns at the elbow, and allowing the big man to make plays all over the court from a primo position.
KAT has fourished in the new role, piling up 16 assists in the last two games, as the Knicks have put up their two highest point totals of the playoffs, including a series best 126 in a 29-point blowout in Game 5 to set up the close-out match.
It hasn’t stifled Brunson, who ripped off a series-high 39 in Game 5, but it has allowed the other guys to work off screens and into scoring spots — particularly OG Anunoby, who is averaging 20 points per game in the series.
New York has won seven of the last 10 straight up, including four of the last five at State Farm Arena. It’s like they’ve unlocked the best version of themselves, especially as the playoff road will get infinitely tougher.
I like them to close Thurdsay.
Knicks vs Hawks Injury Update
The only significant injury of note is Knicks guard Josh Hart, who is dealing with a back injury, and is listed as a game-time decision on ESPN. Hart played a series-low 30 minutes in Game 5.
He is averaging 9.4 points on 37% shooting in the playoffs, adding 10.0 rebounds and 4.8 assists per contest.
For the Hawks, big man Jock Landale (ankle) has yet to play in the series, and won’t be re-evaluated until May 2, so his availability would be only contingent if the Hawks advance to Round 2.
