The Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets clash in Game 3 of their 1st Round series tonight, with LA looking to take a 3-0 series stranglehold. Online sportsbooks don’t like their chances as they’ve pegged Houston as big favorites in the NBA odds.

The big news leading into tonight’s matchup is the injury status of Lakers star Austin Reaves. He’s yet to play this postseason due to an oblique injury, but he’s on track to suit up tonight. As a result, online sportsbooks have lowered Kennnard’s prop lines thinking Reaves will replace the bulk of his production. Los Angeles prioritizes spreading the floor around James, and Kennard has been the ultimate beneficiary this series. Kennard is connecting on a staggering 72.7% of his attempts from downtown through two games. He averages 4 made threes per game in 40.1 minutes of action.

As for the matchup, the Rockets have allowed opponents to shoot 48.9% from three-point range over their first two playoff games, surrendering 11.5 made threes per contest. Houston’s defensive rotations are consistently late. This spells disaster against a shooter operating with an 82.2% true shooting percentage in this series.

Luke Kennard Games 1 and 2 Stats

Will Reaves cut into Kennard’s production? Maybe, but the Lakers simply don’t have enough depth to keep Kennard off the floor given how’s he’s played. He leads the team in scoring, averaging 25 points per game, and you could argue that Reaves could take some defensive attention away from Kennard freeing him up for more open looks.

For all their offensive brilliance, the Lakers are struggling mightily on the boards. They have secured a meager 61.2% of available defensive rebounds, surrendering an alarming 19 offensive rebounds per game. It may not sink them against Houston, but their poor rebounding will come back to haunt them versus legit NBA Championship odds contenders.

This weakness directly feeds Sengun. He is physically overwhelming the opposition, pulling down 19 total rebounds through 71 minutes of series action. Of his 19 total boards, 9 have come on the offensive end.

Getting this 8.5 rebounding line at -110 juice is a clear misprice. Sengun is seeing heavy usage (28.4%) and operating as the hub of Houston’s half-court offense. With Los Angeles allowing massive second-chance opportunities, I’m confidently backing Sengun to clean the glass.
