  • The Denver Nuggets visit the shorthanded Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night
  • Luka Doncic is out and Kyrie Irving is questionable for Dallas, while Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, and Aaron Gordon are all probable for Denver

The Denver Nuggets (23-15, 11-8 away, 18-19-1 ATS) and Dallas Mavericks (23-15, 11-8 away, 19-19-1 ATS) will meet for the second time in three days on Tuesday night at American Airlines Center at 8:40 pm CT/9:40 pm ET. The Mavericks remain without Luka Doncic (calf) but could see Kyrie Irving (back) return from a five-game absence. A trio of key Denver players – Nikola Jokic (illness), Jamal Murray (knee), and Aaron Gordon (calf) – are all probable and Tuesday’s NBA odds favor the healthier Nuggets on the road.

The Nuggets took Dallas’ best Doncic-less punch on Sunday and survived to tell the tale. The Mavericks had the best start imaginable, racing out to a 32-15 lead in the first quarter but Denver had narrowed the gap to just three by halftime and would go onto win 112-101, covering as 5.5-point road chalk.

The Nuggets managed to mount their comeback despite a relatively quiet offensive performance from Nikola Jokic (31.2 PPG, 13.2 RPG, 9.8 APG). The three-time MVP was held to just 19 points on 6-of-13 shooting, but did dominate the glass with 18 rebounds while also dishing out nine assists.

Klay Thompson (14.2 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 2.0 APG) had a team-high 25 points for Dallas in the loss, going 6-of-13 from beyond the arc. His baker’s dozen of three-point attempts tied his highest total in a Dallas uniform.

It would certainly be a boon to the Dallas offense if Kyrie Irving (24.3 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 4.9 APG) is able to return. But keep in mind that the eight-time All-Star has missed five straight games due to his back injury. If he’s in the lineup tonight, and that remains a big if, it’s hard to expect him log heavy minutes.
