The Phoenix Suns will be looking to avoid going into a 3-1 hole on Saturday when they face the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 4 at the Staples Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 pm EST.

The Suns were simply outplayed in Game 3, with LA’s trio of LeBron James, Dennis Schroder, and Anthony Davis combining for 75 of the team’s 109 points. While Deandre Ayton continued to impress with 22 points, Devin Booker struggled. Chris Paul’s health still remains an issue, which is proving to be a massive problem for Phoenix.

Injury Report

While CP3 isn’t listed on the injury report, he is clearly nursing that shoulder injury from the series opener. The veteran guard is having a hard time taking jump shots or getting into any type of rhythm on the floor. However, expect him to play close to full minutes again.

For the Lakers, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (quad) and Anthony Davis (knee) are listed as questionable. KCP’s MRI came back clean after leaving Thursday’s contest with a contusion, but he’ll probably sit out to rest. As for AD, he has a mild knee sprain, but the eight-time All-Star made it clear he’s going to suit up.

Suns Need Help From Everywhere

With the heart and soul of their rotation in Chris Paul not at full strength, the Suns have really lacked the same spark that led them to secure the No. 2 seed in the West. They don’t really possess a true playmaker who can create for his teammates on a consistent basis outside of CP3, especially when Devin Booker needs to flat-out score right now.

Booker only had 19 in Game 3 and eventually got ejected in the fourth after he took his frustrations out on Dennis Schroder with a hard foul. However, the Phoenix guard did dish out six assists as well.

A player who needs to continue to step up is Cameron Payne. He was red-hot in Game 2, sinking several clutch triples in the second half, despite the loss. The former Murray State guard has added a spark in place of Paul, giving Monty Williams a nice mix of shooting, interior scoring, and playmaking. While he’s not very experienced on this stage, Payne is definitely one of these Suns’ role players who must continue to rise to the occasion.

In order to grab a crucial win on Saturday, Booker needs to get back to leading the offense while Phoenix has to also try and limit LA’s production inside. They were outscored 58-38 in the paint on Thursday night.

Can Anyone Stop AD And LeBron?

After a cold series opener, Davis and LeBron have been absolutely showing out ever since. Davis has posted back-to-back 34-point games, while James is scoring and facilitating at a high level. The Lakers have been the more dominant figure on the glass too, out-rebounding the Suns 51-35 in Game 3.

While it’s great news that LA’s superstar duo has found it offensively, Schroder’s resurgence in the last two contests has been key as well. The German has dropped 20+ in consecutive appearances while shooting over 50% from the field. With all three of them thriving offensively, Phoenix has had no answer.

If there was a negative for the defending champs right now, it would be how brutal they’re shooting the ball from deep. Frank Vogel’s squad has drained under 30% of their three-point attempts through the first three games of this series.

Prediction

It’s hard to go against the Lakers, especially when they’re at the Staples Center. Phoenix will have to try and push LA out to the perimeter and make them take more threes because outside of Ayton, the Suns don’t have a ton of size to counter James and AD.

However, it’s not too often you see Booker go cold. Phoenix’s backs are against the wall so I believe you’ll see Book respond with an impressive night while Paul will step up when it matters most and play more of a factor here. Not to mention, they’re 24-13 on the road.
