For the first time ever, the Penn State Nittany Lions (10-2, 9-3 ATS) and Ole Miss Rebels (10-2, 7-4-1 ATS) will be sharing a football field when these two legendary schools clash in the Peach Bowl.

Both are coming into their bowl game matchup with impressive slates on their respective resumes. Ole Miss is 7-1 straight up over the past eight games. Penn State is 15-2 SU in the last 17 games.

Oddsmakers are setting the Nittany Lions as 4.5-point favorites in the Ole Miss vs Penn State odds. Penn State is 20-0 SU in the last 20 games when teeing up the football as the betting choice.

The Rebels are playing in their 41st bowl game. Dating back to the 1948 Delta Bowl, Ole Miss is 25-15 SU in bowl game appearances. That includes a pair of prior Peach Bowl appearances. Ole Miss lost 41-3 to TCU in 2014. In 1971 the Rebels whipped Georgia Tech 41-18.

For Penn State, this is bowl game appearance #53. The Nittany Lions are 31-19-2 SU. It all started with the 1923 Rose Bowl game, but this will be Penn State’s first trip to the Peach Bowl.

Kickoff for this game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday, December 30 is set for 12:00 pm ET. The broadcast is being carried by ESPN.

Rebels vs Nittany Lions Betting Trends

In the Peach Bowl college football public betting splits, there’s not a lot of faith being shown in the Rebels. Penn State is pulling 54% of handle and 56% of bets in the spread splits. The Nittany Lions are 15-3-1 ATS in their last 19 games.

Moneyline splits are heavily weighted to favored Penn State. There’s 97% of handle and 96% of bets backing the Nittany Lions. Penn State is 8-0 ATS in the school’s past eight December games.

The under is the overwhelming play on the total. It’s generating 89% of handle and 87% of bets. Four of Penn State’s last six games have gone under. Five of Mississippi’s last seven games also paid on the under.

Rebels Looking To Make History

They’ve been playing football at Old Miss for over a century. This is just the second time that the school has hit double digits for wins in a season. And with a Peach Bowl triumph, the Rebels would post the first 11-win campaign in school history.

Offensively, Ole Miss is putting up more than 34 points per game on the scoreboard. The Rebels offense is led by junior quarterback Jaxon Dart. He’s thrown for 2,985 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Ole Miss is 16th in the nation with 2.83 sacks per game. They’ll be hard-pressed to get to Penn State QB Drew Allard, though. He’s only been sacked 1.25 times per game. That’s 23rd-best in the nation.

Nittany Lions Are Dynamic Runners

Not surprisingly as a school with a great tradition of producing running backs like Franco Harris, Curt Warner and Saquon Barkley, Penn State shows up looking to run the football. The Nittany Lions suit up a dynamic 1-2 punch in the backfield in RBs Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton.

Allen displays 851 yards rushing and six touchdowns this season. Singleton has gained 702 yards on the ground while scoring eight touchdowns.

Defensively, Penn State leads the nation in total sacks (48) and sacks per game (four). EDGE Adisa Isaac leads the way with 7.5 sacks. But DE and likely NFL first round pick Chop Robinson, who has four sacks, is opting out of the Peach Bowl. As well, defensive coordinator Manny Diaz left to take the head coaching position at Duke.

Ole Miss vs Penn State Prediction

Playing on college football’s big stage, Ole Miss is 1-2 SU in three previous New Year’s Six bowl appearances.

The Nittany Lions are 1-2 SU against ranked teams this season. Head coach James Franklin’s reputation is all about failing in big games.

Ole Miss vs Penn State Pick:

  • Ole Miss Rebels +4.5 (-110)
