Ashton Jeanty Heisman Odds Explode
Boise State’s electric running back Ashton Jeanty has surged to the top of the Heisman odds following another spectacular performance in Week 6. The junior sensation rushed for 186 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries, leading the No. 21 Broncos to a convincing 62-30 victory over Utah State.
What’s even more mind-blowing is that Jeanty sat out the entire second half due to the blowout. Just imagine the video game numbers he could’ve put up if he played all four quarters.

Jeanty’s explosive running style was on full display, as he broke numerous tackles and ripped off several long runs, including a 64-yard touchdown scamper in the second quarter. This performance follows his monster 286-yard game the previous weekend in which he struck the Heisman pose.
Through six games, Jeanty has amassed a nation-leading 845 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns, putting him on pace for over 2,000 yards and 31 scores on the season. The junior’s electrifying play and eye-popping statistics have made him impossible to ignore in the Heisman race, despite playing for a Group of Five program.
Jalen Milroe Heisman Odds Crater
Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe entered Week 6 as the Heisman Trophy favorite following his outstanding performance against Georgia in Week 5. However, his Heisman odds took a nosedive after the Crimson Tide’s shocking 40-35 upset loss to unranked Vanderbilt in Week 6.

Milroe, who had been listed at +200 to win the Heisman prior to the game, finished the loss with 300 passing yards, one passing touchdown, one rushing touchdown, and one interception on 16-of-21 passing.
Despite his solid individual numbers, Milroe was unable to lead Alabama to victory against a Vanderbilt team that had not beaten the Crimson Tide since 1984. Following the loss, Milroe’s Heisman odds tumbled from the top spot to +1100, dealing a huge blow to his MVP campaign.
Can Ashton Jeanty Actually Win the Heisman Trophy?
Jeanty is a legit Heisman candidate bolstered by his consistency and game-breaking ability. He has rushed for at least 127 yards in every game this season and is averaging an astonishing 10.3 yards per carry.
However, despite his incredible performances and eye-popping statistics, Jeanty faces an uphill battle to actually win the prestigious award:
- Historically, Group of Five players have struggled to gain traction in the Heisman race, with no winner from a non-power conference team since BYU’s Ty Detmer in 1990.
- The Heisman Trophy has become increasingly quarterback-centric in recent decades, making it more challenging for a running back to claim the honor.
- Since 2000, only three running backs have won the Heisman: Reggie Bush (USC, 2005), Mark Ingram (Alabama, 2009), and Derrick Henry (Alabama, 2015).
Despite these historical trends working against him, Jeanty’s numbers are simply too impressive to ignore. If he maintains this pace, he could potentially challenge Barry Sanders’ single-season rushing record of 2,628 yards set in 1988.
While I think Travis Hunter offers the best value on the board due to his exceptional two-way play, Jeanty’s explosive performances have thrust him into the spotlight as the new Heisman favorite after Week 6.
