It’s still up in the air if Kyler Murray will lead the Arizona Cardinals (7-1) into California to attempt a season sweep of the San Francisco 49ers (3-4) this Sunday but the game will go on regardless. Kickoff from Levi’s Stadium is scheduled for 4:25 pm ET on FOX. Kevin Kugler and Mark Sanchez will be on the call from the booth.

The Cardinals suffered their first setback of the season in Week 8, 24-21 to the Green Bay Packers. Kyler Murray threw one of the worst interceptions in recent memory in the end zone with only seconds remaining and sprained an ankle to boot. Meanwhile, the 49ers got back on the winning track beating the Chicago Bears 33-22 in their Week 8 matchup.

At the time of writing, the 49ers are, 3.5-point favorites in this matchup which is likely to change closer to kickoff due to Murray’s availability. As for the total, most shops are showing 45 although there are a few 45.5s out there. As always, player props are worth a look and that’s what we’ll do here. With a caveat.

With Kyler Murray, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle all having some form of injury designation, there are not many player props available for this game. As a result, it may be smart to check out the defensive player props offered at BetMGM.

Fred Warner is Special

I don’t normally do too many defensive props but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t. Too often we prop bettors get caught up in all the offensive players and completely forget that the defensive guys have numbers every week too. Well that stops today.

With all of the injury issues going on with each of these teams, this is a perfect opportunity to back a guy like Fred Warner.

Not many books give us defensive player props but BetMGM comes with them for every single game. Given the Kyler Murray issues the Cardinals are having, the 49ers defense is worth a look. Especially since Arizona is highly likely to go more run heavy for as long as they can stay in this game.

More run heavy will mean more Fred Warner. He is the heart and soul of the 49ers’ defense and he proves it every week. He’s on the field for 100% of the snaps almost every week. While he’s only gone over 5.5 tackles three times in seven games, it seems likely for him to do it in this game.

For starters, the three times in seven games is very misleading. He’s recorded at least five in all seven games so it’s not like he’s far off. In the first meeting between these two teams, Warner recorded seven tackles so he’s got that on his side. The very next week in a monsoon against the Indianapolis Colts, he recorded another seven tackles. I expect the game script today to be very similar to that game and if that happens, Warner should record at least six tackles.

  • The Pick: Fred Warner Over 5.5 tackles (+100) wager 0.1 unit to win 0.1 unit
  • SBR 2021 NFL Player Props Record: 13-15, -1.18 Units

Who Scores?

Obviously we’ll need a touchdown scorer prop for this one since they are the most electric bets in football today. Nobody who’s ever bet one can say they haven’t had a life changing experience watching one of these cash. We’re talking “remember where you were when it happened” type stuff here.

One thing is for sure, you’ll remember where you were when this one happens.

Zach Ertz went from washed to completely back after getting traded to the Arizona Cardinals. What he put on film with Philadelphia looks nothing like what he’s done in the last couple weeks in a Cardinals uniform. It won’t matter if Kyler Murray plays or not in this one as Colt McCoy will likely look Ertz’s way in the red zone.

At +300 to score this week, Ertz looks like a steal.

  • Pick: Zach Ertz – Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+300) – Wager 0.1 unit to win 0.3 units
  • SBR 2021 Touchdown Scorer prop record: 13-16, +0.345 units
