In moneyline wagering, 61% of the handle and 63% of bets are supporting the Chiefs. The over is getting 73% of bets. However, it’s the under that’s drawing 69% of the handle. The Chiefs (+800) and Chargers (+1300) are listed at 3-4 in the Super Bowl odds. Kansas City is the +125 chalk to win the AFC West. LA is at a betting line of +190 in the NFL divisional odds.
Can Chargers Pressure Chiefs’ Mahomes?
The Chargers beat the Chiefs 30-24 in LA during Week 3 of the 2021 season. One of the keys to that victory was that the LA defense was able to disrupt KC quarterback Patrick Mahomes. And that was without All-Pro LB Khalil Mack.

The Chargers sacked Mahomes twice. The pass rush pressure they were able to exert also helped lead to two interceptions. As well, the Kansas City offense lost two fumbles in that game.
However, when the two teams met again in Week 15 at Kansas City, Mahomes threw for 410 yards and three TDs. The Chiefs won 34-28. However, the Chargers were still able to sack Mahomes once, pick him off once and force him to lose a fumble.
Butker Injury a Concern for KC
Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker is listed as questionable for this game. He suffered an ankle injury in the Week 1 win at Arizona. Safety Justin Reid came on to kick an extra point for Kansas City. The Chiefs are working out kicker Tristan Vizcaino just in case Butker can’t go on Thursday.
Chiefs right guard Trey Smith is also questionable with an ankle injury.

The Chargers are also dealing with a key injury and it’s not looking good. Head coach Brandon Stanley thinks it’s unlikely that WR Keenan Allen will be playing Thursday. LA’s leading receiver left the Week 1 win over the Las Vegas Raiders with a hamstring injury. He hasn’t practiced this week. Allen caught at least 100 passes in four of the past five seasons.
Chargers starting left cornerback JC Jackson (ankle surgery), missed last week’s game and is listed as questionable to play on Thursday.
Chargers vs Chiefs Prediction
In four starts against the Chiefs, Chargers QB Justin Herbert is 1-3 SU. He’s thrown for 830 yards and 10 TDs against two interceptions.
Justin Herbert needs 371 passing yards Thursday night to reach 10,000 passing yards in his career.
If Herbert reaches that mark, he'll tie Patrick Mahomes (34 games) as the fastest to reach 10,000 pass yards in #NFL history.#Chargers #BoltUp pic.twitter.com/k0KKjRDYGr

Both teams won and covered in Week 1 victories against 2021 playoff teams. Of note though, without Jackson available for coverage, Raiders wideout Davante Adams went off for 10 catches and 141 yards.
Mahomes took advantage of an ailing secondary while throwing for five TDs against Arizona. If Jackson can’t go, then go with the Chiefs to cover. With Kansas sports betting now live, bettors can make this wager and more for their Chargers vs Chiefs picks on TNF.
