Chiefs Control Ravens In Battle Of AFC’s Best

It’s hard to believe that the Chiefs went into Baltimore as a 3.5-point underdog because they absolutely smoked the Ravens. Just take a look at the stats: the Chiefs outgained the Ravens 517-228 in yards, 29-16 in first downs, 385-70 in passing yards, 33:56-26:04 in time of possession, ran 20 more plays and won 34-20.

Patrick Mahomes barely broke a sweat carving up the Ravens defense, accounting for four touchdowns in the first half alone. He finished the day 31-of-42 for 385 yards, four touchdowns and no picks. Had it not been for some Chiefs mistakes like a couple of missed kicks, a fumble, a turnover on downs and a kickoff return for a touchdown, the final score would have been uglier.

Chiefs By Far And Away The Best Team Right Now

Taking a look at what’s happening in the AFC, it’s hard to see anyone who really challenges the Chiefs right now. The AFC South has some good teams but they appear to be a clear cut below. In the AFC West, there is no one that will keep the Chiefs from winning the division.

That leaves some teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots. Both figure to be a challenge for the Chiefs but they aren’t on the Chiefs level – at least right now they’re not. Baltimore was the one team that was expected to be up there with the Chiefs and they got smashed.

In fairness, it’s still early in the year. We’ll also learn more about the Chiefs when they host New England next week. However, at this current moment, the Chiefs are head-and-shoulders above everyone else in the AFC.

As far as the NFC goes, we’re looking at teams like Seattle, Tampa Bay and Green Bay right now. They all seem to have some notable flaws – especially on defense where the Seahawks and Packers rank in the 20’s in terms of points per game allowed. The Seahawks defense ranks dead last in the NFL in yards-per-game allowed at 497.3.

The Chiefs would be favored against any of these teams in a head-to-head matchup on a neutral site and rightfully so. They have one of the two best quarterbacks in the game, an electric cast around him and a competent defense. They are the team to beat.

What’s The Best Bet?

It’s still early in the season but if you’re looking for a team to bet on to win it all, the Chiefs look like the best option. The team chemistry is phenomenal right now, the play-calling by Andy Reid is on the money and Mahomes is really dialled in (he’s yet to throw an interception this season).

As Calais Campbell said after KC’s win over the Ravens: “They don’t pay that man half a billion for nothing”. Agreed. The Chiefs are the best bet to win the Super Bowl right now.

Pick: Kansas City Chiefs (+400)
