The season premiere of Sunday Night Football features an all-NFC East affair, as the New York Giants host the Dallas Cowboys. The Giants look to take the next step after posting a winning record and claiming a playoff spot for the first time in six years last season. Read on for an analysis of the Sunday Night Football Cowboys vs Giants odds and our top picks.
However, New York must make major improvements to their play against NFC East rivals after going just 1-4-1 SU in divisional play a year ago. The Cowboys romped to a 12-5 SU record last season on the strength of a league-leading 8-1 SU record. However, the pressure will be on America’s Team after they once again failed to embark on a lengthy playoff run, and followed up with a middling performance in preseason action. They’ll look to cash some tickets in the Cowboys vs Giants picks as short road favorites on SNF.

Cowboys vs Giants Recent History
Sunday night’s matchup marks the first of two meetings this season between these long-time divisional rivals. The Cowboys swept last year’s season series including a 23-16 victory in New York as 1-point underdogs, and have now topped the Giants in 11 of 12 meetings since the start of the 2017 NFL campaign. The Cowboys effectively slammed the door on the Giants in their past two trips to the Big Apple, allowing just 22 total points, and have surrendered 18 or fewer points in five of their past seven road dates with the Giants. Despite that stingy play, Dallas is just 3-3 ATS in their past six head-to-head matchups.
Dallas Cowboys Betting Trends
The Cowboys have owned the Giants in recent years. But with New York showing signs of making steady improvements on both sides of the ball, and with the pressure on Dak Prescott and head coach Mike McCarthy quickly getting critical, nailing down a victory at MetLife will be a much bigger task.

WR @brandincooks will play his first game as a member of the Dallas Cowboys. His career total against New York:
17 rec, 193 yrds, 2 TDs (64.3 yds per game) per @statmusenfl

Dallas is likely to feel the loss of veterans Ezekiel Elliott and Dalton Schultz, and while Brandin Cooks brings solid veteran poise to the receiving corps, the downfield focus will remain squarely on CeeDee Lamb, who racked up a total of 193 receiving yards and one score in two dates with New York last season. Lamb could be one to target in the Cowboys vs Giants props.
New York Giants Betting Trends
Quarterback Daniel Jones managed to drag the Giants into playoff contention last season despite seeing the defense surrender over 358 total yards per game. Adding to those concerns is a disappointing preseason performance by this squad, which lost two of three while averaging just 20.3 points per game. On a positive note, the Giants have brought back star rusher Saquon Barkley after he flashed vintage form last season, piling up 1312 rushing yards and 10 scoring runs. The squad also added tight end Darren Waller, providing Jones with another high-value target.
Last year for Saquon Barkley was about reestablishing himself as a top running back. This season it’s about taking his game to the next level.
Barkley also told me he shed some weight for this season. He dropped five or six pounds to 226 or 227. Played at 232 last season.

However, the success of the Giants will hinge on the performance of the defense and offensive line. New York allowed the fifth most sacks in the league last season, but took steps to shore things up with the additions of rookie center John Michael-Schmitz, while rookie cornerbacks Deonte Banks and Tre Hawkins III. The question is whether the kids are ready for prime time.
Cowboys vs Giants Prediction
All the pressure will be on the Cowboys playing before a loud, hostile crowd in inclement weather on Sunday Night Football. While Dallas holds the edge both historically, and in terms of experience, things could go sour quickly, particularly if rain gets heavy. That sets the table for New York to at least keep things close in the Cowboys vs Giants odds, if not earn the win, in a low-scoring affair.
